Narf's CP3/Howard trade....
New Orleans:
OUT - $35,692,257
Chris Paul - $16,359,805
Emeka Okafor - $12,541,812
Trevor Ariza - $6,790,640
IN - $23,840,238
Michael Beasley - $6,262,347
Ricky Rubio - $3,480,120
Anthony Randolph - $2,911,231
Martell Webster - $5,256,000
Wayne Ellington - $1,154,040
Darko Milicic - $4,776,500
Minnesota unprotected 2014 draft pick, New Jersey 2013 2nd round pick, New Orleans 2014 2nd round pick (currently owed to Minnesota)
Every single player is on a good or "neutral" contract, and they all fit well together in New Orleans
Darko/
Randolph/
Beasley/Pondexter
Webster/Belinelli/Ellington
Rubio/Jack
Essentially a complete rebuild in 1 year with a team full of young talent. Not sure if New Orleans resigns West, does a sign-and-trade to another team, or what. But they have a pretty solid core to start with and a ton of young talent and draft picks.
With as much cap space as they have after this trade, I would sign Nene and get a backup PF and call it an off season.
Orlando:
OUT - $38,260,268
Gilbert Arenas - $19,269,308
Dwight Howard - $17,885,400
Daniel Orton - $1,105,560
IN - $29,582,612
Emeka Okafor - $12,541,812
Derrick Williams - $4,602,720 (note, this is using the 2010/11 rookie scale and may be adjusted later)
Wesley Johnson - $4,006,080
Luke Ridnour - $3,680,000
Nikola Pekovic - $4,320,000
Brad Miller (insurance paid contract) - $4,752,000
Minnesota 2016 unprotected draft pick, Memphis 1st round pick, Denver 2015 2nd round pick.
I assume Orlando Amnesties Turkoglu:
Okafor/Pekovic/Miller (on paper anyway)
Ryan Anderson/Bass
D. Williams/Wes Johnson
JJ Reddick/Q Richardson
Nelson/Ridnour/Duhon
Not sure if you consider Williams to be a PF or a SF, but he'll get plenty of playing time regardless. Orlando adds plenty of size and a true low post scorer off the bench with Pekovic, keeps all their core young players, dumps every bad contract they have, and has a young playoff team in the east this year. Screw rebuilding, they are rebuilt.
Minnesota
OUT - $45,201,038
Michael Beasley - $6,262,347
Ricky Rubio - $3,480,120
Anthony Randolph - $2,911,231
Wayne Ellington - $1,154,040
Darko Milicic - $4,776,500
Nikola Pekovic - $4,320,000
Derrick Williams - $4,602,720
Wesley Johnson - $4,006,080
Martell Webster - $5,256,000
Luke Ridnour - $3,680,000
Brad Miller (insurance paid contract) - $4,752,000
Minnesota 2016 unprotected draft pick, Memphis 1st round pick, New Jersey 2013 2nd round pick, Denver 2015 2nd round pick, Minnesota unprotected 2014 draft pick, New Orleans 2014 2nd round pick (currently owed to Minnesota)
IN - $61,410,713
Chris Paul - $16,359,805
Trevor Ariza - $6,790,640
Gilbert Arenas - $19,269,308
Dwight Howard - $17,885,400
Daniel Orton - $1,105,560
Howard/Orton
Love/Tolliver
Ariza/Lazar Haywood
Arenas/Malcom Lee
Chris Paul/Arenas/Malcom Lee
Under the new CBA, because Minnesota is under the luxury tax, they can absorb up to 150% in a trade. I am assuming I can make multiple "simultaneous trades" instead of having it all count as 1 trade thereby avoiding the $5 million dollar limit. If not, the Wolves would lose Ariza. Even after this trade the Wolves would be under the Luxury Tax threshold, and be able to add a MLE player and some veteran minimum players.
After the trade, they sign Malcom Lee (2nd round pick) to a 3 year guaranteed contract for the minimum with a QO on year 4 and add in some veterans off the bench to round out the team.
Grant Hill would look awful nice as a MLE signing bumping Ariza down to SG with Arenas off the bench.

Is it good value for Orlando and New Orleans? Most of the CP3/Howard trades look like cracked out homer fantasies. I thought this one might actually be good value.

Re: Narf's CP3/Howard trade....
It depends entirely on your view of our guys. Guys like Rubio, Beasley and Randolph are question marks for various reasons. The 1sts are kind of pointless, assuming Dwight and Paul would sign extensions here and this team becomes a contender.
I suppose its good value if you have faith in our guys turning into something. You're right that most proposed trades for Dwight and Paul seem to be steaming turds, but I think the reason behind it is because the teams they would sign extensions or new contracts with just don't have much to give and realistically neither is signing an extension here, even if we pulled this trade off and won a championship our first year together.

I quite disagree. I think that winning championships is far more important than being in NY or LA, and the fact that the best free agents wouldn't sign for less in NY the last 20 years (including Amare) says a lot about how little market size matters and how much winning matters to most players. San Antonio is significantly smaller than Minneapolis is, and plenty of people have signed for less to play there. OKC and Memphis will have no problem attracting MLE players.shangrila wrote:realistically neither is signing an extension here, even if we pulled this trade off and won a championship our first year together.

I didn't think that needed green font but I guess I was wrong. We wouldn't win the championship this season so they would leave, its just a fact.

If you have Howard, Paul, and Love you have a chance to win the championship. Hell, if you have Paul and Howard you have a chance to win the championship.

Re: Narf's CP3/Howard trade....
I have a misguided sense of loyalty to Ricky Rubio, which is why I would prefer to see Rubio traded to a respectable Eastern Conference team. It's not really the biggest issue when Howard and Paul go to Minnesota.
The rebounding alone makes me want to cry.
Edit: New Orleans would probably prefer that Chris Paul be sent to the East, so Rajon Rondo might be a more attractive option.

These trades offer more value, and better fitting assets, than 90% of the Dwight / Paul trades out on the Trade Board right now. These rebuilding teams will not only want top lottery prospects, but ones that are young and cheap, and won't have the leverage to force their way out for several years.
That said, I think it's almost impossible right now to predict a realistic trade for these guys. Remember how the Melo offer tripled when it went from one team bidding to two? The ultimate price NOH and ORL get will be completely determined by how many, or how few, teams that both star will agree to extend with.

Any trade to MIN (or any destination) would be dependent on whether Paul and Howard would choose to come here. We don't know that, but MIN could make a decent case.
MIN is a place where they could both play - right now - and leave their old teams/fans with a decent package. The team also maintains a third young superstar in Kevin Love. With the disharmony of MIA, a Big Three where #3 is "super-complimentary" seems like a pretty good idea. Does any PF compliment Howard's game more than Love? As for marketing, the last two biggest marketing stars in the NBA have been LeBron and Garnett .. both in middle america. The NBA is a national game now .. if you're good, you get noticed, wherever you are.

I'm all for going all in on Dwight. Only if he said he would resign in Minnesota when we can add another superstar, though.
We have enough assets to even keep Love if we are trading for an unextended Dwight.

Kinda sad that Kahn already told us that we won't make a major deal before the start of the season. I believe him.

Re: Narf's CP3/Howard trade....
After the Paul trade debacle, this scenerio maybe becomes slightly more realistic. We could even have New Orleans and Orlando figure out which of their assets they each want or need to make a deal happen and make the trade be part of the same deal. I think we'd say Love is off the table, but everything else is on it.
Still not particularly realistic, but getting more so.

You know the owners wouldn't veto a move that put Paul in MIN .. even with Dwight Howard.

I was perusing the first couple pages of Real GM's board. Look what I found Narf post over there.
viewtopic.php?f=22&t=1141050
This is the kind of sh*t they discuss over there.....it's pretty telling that Narf found a safe haven over there for his COMPLETELY RIDICULOUS trade ideas.
Here's a deep thought from one of their mods: If you have Howard, Paul, and Love you have a chance to win the championship. Hell, if you have Paul and Howard you have a chance to win the championship.
Thanks a lot backwards fran! Ruing our rep over here
