D.Howard (if he's willing to sign an extension)
R.Westbrook/J.Harden+S.Ibaka
P.Gasol+A.Bynum
L.Aldrige+N.Batum
M.Ellis+D.Lee
M.Gasol+R.Gay/OJ Mayo
A.Jefferson+P.Millsap

Yeesh. Some of these trades are terrible.

shrink wrote:People seem to downgrade Love because he's not a typical #1. I think that's wrong for two reasons.

First, who here wants to bet against Love improving? I used to, but I'm not doing that any more. There may be no player in the NBA right now other than Love who has demonstrated more desire to improve, and willingness to put in the hard work to do so. Does anyone really think that in three years, he won't be a good defender, or have a couple good post moves?

Second, even if he doesn't, Kevin Love right now is arguably the best complimentary player in the game. In fact, MIN's two most important players (I'm putting Rubio there now) are both like this. I think that some superstar player or agent is going to realize that they would look incredible on a team next to Love. Love gets possessions, scores without the ball, outlet passes, draws fouls to limit defenders, hits three pointers to pull big men away from the hoop, and would gladly let someone else create their own shots in crunch time. If Marbury didn't want to play behind Batman, maybe a superstar would love to play next to two Super-Robins.

I know it's against the rules of this thread but I have to agree with shrink here.

I wouldn't trade him, there isn't anyone we'll get back who is better. He has grown as a player every season, I don't know why that would stop, he's only 23.

I think it's near impossible to get enough value that is as good of a fit as love.with Rubio as Love.

That said, I think it's becoming clear pretty quickly that ricky rubio is our franchise player.

Adelman is so picky with players that I'd be scared to death to trade Love for supposed "potential" or think we could replace him with derrick williams.

No, I don't think anyone would. I like those guys though. I'd love to try and sign Asik in the offseason.

No, your 1st rounders are not worth much at all (high 20's), they are less useful than the 2nd rounders in some ways...

If he is not resigning, I would trade him for:

Serge Ibaka and James Harden

Not sure if OKC would do this, but we would get tremendous value. James Harden can be a legit 1st option. A backcourt formed by Ricky Rubio and James Harden would be among the best in the league, solid defending, scoring and distributing.

Ricky Rubio/Luke Ridnour/JJ Barea
Harden/Martell Webster/JJ Barea
Beasley/Wes Johnson
Serge Ibaka/Derrick Williams/Tolliver
Darko/Anthony Randolph/Pekovic

Wes would finally play in his natural position, SF. Solid scoring of the bench. Definetely a solid defensive upgrade.

Although I guess once Webster is back, he will start at SG and we would finally have a solid defensive SG who can hit open 3s.

I don't know that I would call Love the best complimentary player in the game - in fact I don't think he is a great complimentary player for Rubio. Rubio is one of the best pick and roll players and lob throwers in the game, but he will spend most of his time teaming with Kevin Love who is a good pick and pop player, but not so strong rolling to the basket. Of course, compared to his pick and roll play, the chances of him catching a lob pass are much lower. This limits the easy scoring opportunities that help both players in the flow of the game.

When Love has the ball, he's a very slow decision maker, whether it be in the post or even at times in catch and shoot possessions on the perimeter (he still likes to wait for defender's who are rushing at him so he can try to draw the foul). He's also not a very good passer out of the post, which limits his effectiveness there.

Defensively he remains pretty meh, especially his help defense.

He's a good player who keeps improving, but trading him for a good young center still seems the way to go to me - I think I'm doubling down on Detroit's Greg Monroe even though I still have no plausible trade suggestion.

He's got the right attitude - he doesn't act like a self-important star. His game and contract compliment about any team.

Last year he came in at 17, but look at some of the guys he passed:

Melo, Amare ... expensive and would leave the wrong place.
Kobe ... $30 mil in three years .. bad fit on many payrolls
Dirk .. Dirk's better, but he's older
Eric Gordon, Al Horford .. injured
John Wall .. worse this year, starting to make me think of Marbury.
Russell Westbrook .. exposed in playoffs and fights with Durant
Deron Williams .. unextended, could be gone at year's end.
LaMarcus Aldridge (16) .. he was the next guy I voted for.

All these dogs (except maybe LA) have different fleas.

So you telling me when Love is playing with a max contract next year his trade value is going to decrease? Love having a cheap contract now doesn't matter much for teams. Unless the team plan on trading for him and getting rid of him at the end of the year. You gotta pay to play

If I need to build a contender to win a title within 5 years. I am taking everybody on that list but Gordon, Wall, and Dirk over Love. Feel Westbrook, Love and Amare are about a push. All very talented players that have flaws that would hold back the team.

How is his trade value going to stay the same when he gets paid a lot more? Obviously it is going to decrease. His production per $ will fall significantly, which makes it harder to put people around him..

It will obviously fall a little bit but GMs aren't stupid, they know they will have to pay him

And like I mentioned in a previous post, even if Love gets a max deal, at his age he will be paid less than these other stars.

In terms of value, I'd trade Love for anyone above him on this list, and not for anyone below: http://forums.realgm.com/boards/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=1152329 (exclude Wade from above, as well). In terms of players to target, maybe Gordon, George, Granger, Bogut, but I dunno if I'm willing to part with Love in a package for those guys.

8!!! That's nuts. Love is now the most overrated player on real gm IMO.

They include age, potential, and contract. They aren't saying Love is the 8th best player, they are saying 8th most trade value. Love + $10 million = Nene, to put that into perspective.

Rubio is pretty good looking for the open guy in the perimeter also so i think they compliment just fine.
And as usual i was imagining Rubio and Valanciunas pickandrolling all the way with Love ready to punish from the outside if the defense react  that would have been nasty, so sad we'll never see it. :(
If you want to try to measure the elements of basketball that are supposedly unmeasurable, spend a game just watching Marc Gasol.

Rubio and Williams pick and rolling with Love ready to punish them on the outside works better for me.
