Melo

Post#1 » by kingrory » Mon Feb 13, 2012 12:48 am

I typically loath the fantasy trade threads but while licking my wounds from last night's loss of one thousand kicks to the balls, I began to hypothesize.

The Knicks were quite blatantly struggling without consistent and sufficient PG play. Amare's othera brother (seriously, the kid looks SO much like him) and Toney the Tiger simply were not cutting it as Coach D loves to call Pick & Roll's as much as Rambis loved the ol' "Give it to Darko" routine and both Shump and Toney are not great P&R operators.

Enter Jeremy Lin. I'm not sure how, maybe Tebow gave him his God Cheat Code or maybe it's his Harvard mind, but not only can the guy run the P&R well, his footwork, consistency, and quickness combine to make him a dangerous penetrator who has little to no problems finishing.

Let's say STAT returns and the Knicks start looking like a championship team with Amare and Lin as a perfect match. Then, Melo returns and cannot find a way to benefit the team and/or only works as a 6th Man.

Either way, the dissonance is sure to create a need for change.

Would you want to make a move for Melo?
And if so, who would we most likely need to move?

There is very little on this roster that NY would want. Outside of Love and Rubio, #1 would likely be Williams, but I personally wouldn't do that. The problems that you talk about with NY would be the exact same here.

Melo is being paid way, way, too much cash.
$18,518,574
$20,463,024
$22,407,474
$24,351,924

All of that is guaranteed. No way in hell is he worth that, especially not to us. Considering how much people bitch about Beas around here; imagine someone who is more of a black hole, making several times what he does, on this team. People would have heart attacks.

Basketball-wise, I'd do it granted we don't give up Ricky, Love and Pek because he's definitely an huge upgrade from Beasley and Wes but hes waaaaaay, waaaaaay, waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay expensive.

No way. I thought the Knicks lost big time in that trade originally. Carmelo is a good scorer, but that is it. He isn't that efficient either. He is just a black hole.

I agree. I'm a HUGE fan of Danilo Gallinari. That trade was dumb by the Knicks. They'd probably be much better off right now had they not made that trade.

Back on topic, I wouldn't trade Derrick Williams straight up for Melo. Carmelo is a great offensive player, no doubt about it, but he would not fit one bit on this team. He needs the ball to be his effective self, and you can't take the ball away from Rubio or he becomes worthless. And he doesn't know the first thing about what defense even is.

BTW anyone else noticing this scenario right now for any Wolves players not named Love or Pekovic? Just like ESPN has been saying all day that the boo birds will come out at MSG if the ball sticks in Melo's hands, thats exactly whats been happening at Target Center outside of the three of them. If Rubio doesn't have the ball, everyone here freaks out. If Rubio is on the bench a few seconds more than they want, everyone freaks out.

For me, it's only when Rubio's on the floor and they give the ball to Ridnour and let him dribble away the shot clock. What is the point of Rubio bringing the ball up the court, then passing it to Ridnour then Rubio running to the corner while Luke dribbles the shot clock down to 2 and then forcing up a shot or committing a turnover?

I don't understand that. And it seems to happen a few times per game.
