there are definitely legit charges, but they're visually easy to pick out imo. My bottom line is I'd rather err on the side of no-call, but officiating today in most aspects is to assume a foul and that's the root of excessive stoppages caused by acting and needs to be changed in my humble opinion. I know officiating is hard, but they make too many calls based on visual cues and I'd like to see them make a concerted effort to let the game play out more often and swallow the whistle.
The original purpose in instituting the tighter calling of games was in response to all the physical 85-80 games we were seeing, but I don't get the sense of a more free-flowing and exciting game personally.

I am all for more no calls and all for having to see the penalty occur. i guess my big thing was I'm fine with defenders moving with their sole purpose being to draw a charge as long as they legitimately draw the charge and I don't think that's skewing the fundamentals of basketball. if anything its the only way for less athletic players to stop the josh smiths of the league; only way to contest a dude who's quicker longer and stronger than you is to anticipate his spots and be there first
