So what do the Wolves do now when the Blazers match the Batum offer sheet?
Taylor said the first priority isn't necessarily a wing playe but  "We've got to get some big guys."
They've been pursuing Boston restricted free-agent center Greg Stiemsma and Lakers power forward Jordan Hill and it now looks like those bigs will be the priority over a wing.
As for those wings, their best options are, in this order:
1. Courtney Lee
2. O.J. Mayo
3. Andre Iguodala

Love/Hill
Pek/Steimsma

That'd be nice, although the wing spot would still be a little weak, relying on Williams' transition to SF, Roy's knees and Shved's readiness.

For what it's worth, according to the Memphis paper this morning, the Wolves and Grizz are (reportedly) talking trade:

The Grizzlies have engaged the Minnesota Timberwolves in trade talks in hopes of acquiring one of three guards, according to a source with knowledge of the discussions.

Memphis has interest in Wayne Ellington, Wesley Johnson or Martell Webster – each of whom have reportedly been made available.

Ellington likely is the Grizzlies' main target because of his salary...

Please, no! We need a defensive player!

The post says that the Grizzlies are interested in Johnson, Ellington or Webster, not that the Wolves are interested in Mayo.

But what is coming back from Memphis? Just a salary dump for the Wolves (I'd be fine with that)?

OJ Mayo is one of the best defenders in the league, hes a two way player and hes a great passer and playmaker.

I normally don't say this for guys who have played 4 years of pro ball, but I think Mayo has some potential. He was was really the odd man out in Memphis. His rook/soph campaign show that he is a very solid shooter and scorer. He should be able to match that if he's put in the right situation. In our team, he'd fit right in Adelman's system. With so many willing passers, the team increases scoring opportunities.

I'd consider Mayo if both circumstances are met...
A) Barea and Ridnour are traded
B) The team fails to acquire Batum, Lee, and Iguodala

soooooooooo.....Good luck in Phoenix OJ Mayo!

Sorry if I muddied the waters, but I didn't want to start a new thread on y'all's board. Also, FWIW, Tillery is generally pretty solid on his info and sourcing.

Back to Mayo for a sec, he's in PHX today - word is there's a very good chance he'll be staying as a Sun.

Probably. We need to open up some roster spots on the wing for Shved, Roy, Budinger. Maybe Dante Cunningham as a Tolliver replacement?

Not a problem.

I see a 0% chance of us getting Mayo. We just agreed to terms with Roy and Shved. Since a teams 3rd SG hardly ever plays, which one of these three would be the one that never takes his sweats off on game days?

No worries, I was responding do zambam's post about needing a defensive player, which I assumed was Mayo related.

I hope Mayo ends up in Phoenix. It would be fun watching him and Beasley try to share.

My fault, I thought it was Mayo related.

I recall reading somewhere that the Wolves FO believe Shved can play SF as well. If the Wolves pursue Mayo, it could be an indication of how confident they are that Shved can play at that position (or if he can actually play at all) and how much confidence they have in Roy's knees.
