No. that's not the case at all. People are always bringing up Beal. But in Beal's case he's constantly on a struggling team. I'm wondering why he's not held to the same standards and questions about why he's not improving his own team's level. His recent game results the example. Getting blown out almost by the amount of his insane production level. Here the talk often ends up how our best players producing the most are only getting theirs and hurting those around them type of narratives.
We can rip Beal for not helping the Wizards win recently. But he's not without a track record of winning or playoff experience. He's been on 5 teams with at least a .500 record. He's won more playoff series than the entire Wolves organization. He's started 40 playoff games... averaging 22.7 ppg. In 3 of those seasons, he upped his production in the playoffs from the regular season.
[Note: Check out Beal's teammates from his last game:
Starters: Isaac Bonga, Raul Neto, Robin Lopez, Jordan Bell.
Reserves: Garrison Matthews, Jerome Robinson, Alex Len, Winston Gill, Cassius Winston.
I'm an NBA guy. I follow more than the Wolves. I've never heard of 4 of those guys... and the rest... well, they suck. Len and Bell were signed a few days ago. Bell is starting on a 10-day contract. He couldn't even get consistent run on the terrible Wolves last season.
Oh... Beal scored 47 points. His teammates scored 59 and shot 36%.]
I will agree with everything you are saying. Like everyone else I've been a fan of his play over the years. But now take Beal out of Wizards, replace say Beasley with Beal on the Wolves and now on any given night have 5 to 6 players who can't hit a barn that day. Beal will do his thing, the team will lose anyway, and what will fans say about him then? The very same thing they say about anyone decent here playing. That they can't be star players because they are not doing enough for others, not improving others, he's just getting his. So you see I'm not trying to knock on Beal, I'm talking about how we see our own players differently from the grass is greener outside players.
The one difference with Beal is the consistency he's been able to maintain even when other's play is failing around him. He's not been having off nights where he can't shoot just because the rest of the team is bumbling. That's always what's been appealing about him for here for me. I see him a finished product in prime, and I see someone like Beasley on near his same path just a few years back from him in the process.
On who he recently played with, those are just a recent health outage thing. It's not like he's been alone. These last three seasons have been losing records and he hasn't been alone.
He has had plenty of good players on the roster with him and they are 3-11 again this year for whatever the reason. Westbrook and Lopez are producers, and then Hachimura, Advidja are both young but talented. Adding Beal to those four shouldn't be terrible. Previous season he had Ish Smith, Bertans, a little Isaiah Thomas time (900 minutes), Hachimura and others. The season before, Wall (1,100 minutes), Ariza, Green, Otto Porter, Markief Morris, others.
I'll use JMac only because I'm familar with his stats but for a minutes comparison he only played 590 minutes last season. So in those losing seasons where Wall only played 1,100 or Thomas only 900, that's still quite a bit they were involved those seasons.
