It’s not that Nowell cannot start, he must not start. Nowell is a huge scoring threat on a second unit that has 2 players who cannot consistently score. For any lineup change to the starting five you must also account for the second unit. Without Reid you must play either Vando or Davis at the backup 5. Reid and Nowell are both essential to maintaining bench scoring. If anything Ant should leave the starting lineup to add more scoring to the bench unit and put someone like Layman in his place.
Sure....but couldn't Dlo be a scoring threat on the bench instead? Clearly what is currently being rolled out isn't working.....I'm just advocating to change things up. I think Davis is a decent backup five if it means having a stronger and more cohesive starting unit.
I can't agree with benching Edwards at this point. He's the number one pick and one of the only Wolves players that is good at breaking defenders down off the dribble. Commentators had it right yesterday......Edwards and KAT should be pick and rolling heaps.
Putting Dlo on the bench kills the KAT and Dlo P&R we have all been waiting to see. Also, Ricky is a two and done if we cannot trade him as expiring next year. Dlo needs to develop chemistry with his starting unit (here’s hoping they stay healthy,) for the good of the future of the team. If you move McDaniels and Layman to the starting five and run Rubio, Nowell, Ant, Vando, and Reid now you have three scorers and two utility players. That lineup could rival most teams benches if we get a proper coach. The alternative is to start Vando and move Layman or Okogie to the second unit. Either way, I think the second unit collapses without Nowell and could really use another offensive threat.
Just my opinion, but prioritising anything to do with Dlo over Edwards will be a losing strategy long term for the Wolves.
