Not that I don’t believe that FIBA was the reason for the delay, but I don’t fully buy it. Garuba, the Rockets first rounder, played for the team Bolmaro’s team played in the Spanish league finals. He also played in the Olympics for Spain. Yet, despite FIBA “hurdles,” he had his buyout negotiated and contract signed with the Rockets more than a month ago. He also played in summer league.

Barring a Simmons trade I think Bolmaro will be the end of our offseason. Can't see them adding anyone and going over the lux at this point, and realistically probably at any point this season. Maybe someone later in the year when their actual salary is low enough to fit under that 600k number.

We could still stretch Layman and replace him with someone. I’d like to get some more size/toughness in the front court. Maybe a top 55 protected 2nd for Oruro?

I think they probably keep Layman to use as expiring at the trade deadline. Rosas is one of those guys who will want every tool in his belt. Also, Layman was good when he first arrived and took a major step back last year. Who knows, maybe he improved this offseason and may be back to his 2019 skill level. If so he is a competent 3rd string SF/PF (though I hope we stay healthy enough that we never need to find out.)

Layman has a decent contract, has size, athletic, can shoot, cuts well, adequate defender at times ... but ... he needs to stay healthy and improve the little things like setting better picks, using picks, ball movement/ball-handling, and simply establish a more gritty presence. As a role player, ya still have to show your willing and able to do the little things.

I think there is a near ZERO percent chance we add dead cap for next year a even less of a chance we do it to just barely go into the LUX...that would be fireable.

If we open up a roster spot, we would just use a 2nd, but this late? Doubt it, though possible. Hard to think there are any targets out there at this point we would value enough to move a 2nd.

I think the more likely situation would to move either Okogie, Layman or both and a 2nd or 2nds for a player a team might move on from for any number of reasons... probably a player buried on a team's depth chart and due a contract in a year our two, or a useful player with long-term salary the team might want to shed given it's direction. But probably not many teams looking to make moves like that at this point, but the teams who would be, would want to do it soon

I think we stand pat, even though I think we should or should have been trying to find value. Right now it seems Simmons or bust.

For all the skills you mentioned I expected Layman to become an average to slightly above average starting swing forward. I'm surprised he didn't, but health issues have derailed many a career.

Still could use a big - unless they plan on Nathan Knight being with the team most of the first half of the season - and converted to a full contract once his number gets under $600K.

I've never seen it with Layman. I just think he's so so so bad. The only time you notice him on the Court is when he gets embarassed out there.

This so much about Layman.

I don't think Bolmaro will have that problem, the one thing that sticks out right away with Bolmaro is energy.

Mike Schmitz picked Bolmaro to be 1 of 4 rookies likely to ouperform their draft position. He's been a fan in the past: https://www.google.com/amp/s/dunkingwithwolves.com/2021/09/15/minnesota-timberwolves-espn-lists-leandro-bolmaro-potential-outperformer/amp/

So most of us are pretty reserved in our expectations for Bolmaro, but I'm wondering if we should be more excited. While stardom is unlikely, I think this kid has a more well-rounded arsenal than I remembered. His facilitating should prove valuable as a complementary piece in the offense. It really will come down to the shot. Can he make enough of them to stay on the floor? I think he can.

From watching him, the one thing that was a bit disappointing is the creation ability. As he was billed as a PG overseas, I expected more. He doesn’t have an overly creative handle and absolutely no ability to go left. Shooting he’s clearly most comfortable with a pull-up midrange shot, which isn’t a good NBA shot. Like you said, if he’s going to ever become an NBA starter, he needs to become a better high volume shooter from three.

His goal should be Lonzo Ball. A player with high BBIQ, good defensive tenacity, and makes threes in volume. That’s a ceiling and not a likely outcome though.

I don’t expect much this year. At least not early. The fact he was only a bit player in the ACB playoffs (once Barca was healthy) and for Argentina during the Olympics suggests to me he’s not ready for rotational NBA minutes yet. He’s 21 though, so hopefully soon.

I don't know if I'm more excited about the future of Bolmaro or McDaniels. Hyperbole aside, this draft class could go down as the greatest for a single team in NBA history.
