To me Towns is more and empty stats guy ala just like another good player the wolves had in Kevin Love.Puts up monster numbers but they truly don't matter in the big picture and are clearly the 2nd or 3rd options on true title contending teams.

I wouldn't be at all opposed to trading Towns right now to land another star to pair with Edwards moving forward.Even a lesser player then Towns like Ingram,Brown or even Simmons I would think about trading for as long as we get another player and a 1st round pick or two.

The concept of empty stats is a myth. When a player scores a basket two or three points go on the board. That is never empty. When a player gets a rebound it ends the opponents possession and starts one for his team. Same with a steal. No such thing as an empty stat.

This wasn’t about “keeping both.” That was purposefully not an option. We are obviously keeping both. That’s not what this info gathering was about.

This was a personal preference - one or the other. I don’t understand why people are fixated on minutiae words like “timeline” - who cares?!

What if the League said “each team can only have one guy with Anthony in his name” and regardless of how stupid the rule is you hafta move one. Which one?

Was going to say the same thing!
People copping out with the “keep both” b/s.

If you could only keep one, with the current state of the team and the guard centric league, which one do you keep?

It’s EASY. Some ppl don’t have the Clive Davis eyes and that’s fine. But just a PSA for that that don’t have CD eyes, ANT is that man that raises a team above water and KAT is that dude that HELPS that guys. Think Lebron AD

The BS is making us choose. We don't have to.

That is not entirely true. I agree that some stats are mislabeled, but IMO anything that happens once the game has been decided (AKA garbage time) is empty stats. My reasoning is that once the contest is over and both teams are simply trying to run out the clock, the focus shifts from competition to sustainability. You tell players not to get hurt and not to do anything to crazy. For the winning team take time off the clock and don’t somehow let the losing team back in it. For the losing team don’t let the deficit explode to record book numbers if you can avoid it. But who gets rebounds and who scores when neither team is really engaged doesn’t have a lot of value.

That said, a lot of the time players are accused of empty stats when they fight their own teammates for rebounds or refuse to pass and run up their own PPG with inefficient numbers. I believe that the stats are not empty because a lot of the time the activity is reflected on the stat sheet and the selfish behavior is exposed. For instance if you took 35 shots then your teammates obviously took fewer when on the floor with you. So I agree to an extent that the term empty stats is misused, but they do exist.

I think you’re both right, and cleaningtheglass.com will remove the small segment of garbage time in some games for $5/month.

That said, I agree with KG here. In fact, Towns stats may be even more significant. It is a lot easier for James Harden to put up his number when defenses need to focus on Durant and Kyrie too, as opposed to poor Towns, who puts up his numbers despite teams gearing their whole game plan to stop him. Yes, his numbers haven’t led to wins, but wins is a team stat, and he hasn’t had talented teammates next to him for most of his career.

Philadelphia fans are nuts if they think they are getting Ant for Simmons

Note: Kevin Garnett didn't have a playoff series win until his ninth season.

Calinks wrote:I understand. I think they have had a better last couple of seasons and I don't have a problem with anyone saying they are better. That said I think they have had opportunities to maximize their talents way more than KAT has. He has never had a team close to what they have had the last 2-3 years. The best team KAT had was the Thiberwolves and that team still isn't as good as the recent Nuggets or Philly teams.

This is the key. When you're a big, you need help. Gobert has needed Hayward or Mitchell. Jokic needs Murray. Embiid needs Simmons (even if he doesn't want to admit it). Giannis needs Middleton. Towns needs Edwards.
