How does opponents swarming the paint screw the shooters? It seems like that should make things simple for the shooters. Remember the facilitating skills that would be on the court at the same time.

No driving means perimeter zone. You have two people the defense can basically ignore and the perimeter defenders don’t need to worry nearly as much about the drive because they have help behind them. Worse still Ant is a low percentage 3 point shooter and Beasley/Prince have both collapsed. Puts a ton of pressure on KAT and Dlo to make contested 3s.

All right, let me ask it this way. In a 48 minute game how many minutes does Simmons play and how many does V8 play? I ask because they are very similar players. Both are strong defenders, rebounders, and good at the rim. I will grant you Simmons is better across most categories, (not quite sure about rebounding, V8 is a machine when he stays out of foul trouble, and V8 is a better free throw shooter, though Simmons gets to the line more.) but he also costs between 6 and 7 times more per year. If the starting five is Beverly, Dlo, Ant, Simmons, and KAT then V8 is replaced by Simmons and his minutes are reduced. You said yourself you don’t expect them to share the court often. So, in theory Simmons needs to rebound and defender better than V8 in the same minutes in order to be an upgrade. Also, assuming something like 30 minutes for Simmons and 18 for Vando, we have no idea what the reduced role does to Vando’s numbers long term.

I see why you like Simmons and why you want him here, and under different circumstances I might feel the same. But I look at Ant and I see a player who’s destiny is at the rim. I see the mission of this team going forward is to find ways to help Ant fulfill his destiny. With Karl’s unique offensive skills and improving Defense and Ant becoming one of the most dominant slashers in the modern NBA, this team has a bright future. That said, one dimensional players like V8 and Simmons hurt that future because they limit offenses and make defenses more effective at congesting the lane and preventing Ant from fulfilling his destiny. The only clear way I see around this problem is two 3 point shooting bigs who can both rebound well and score inside. This is Turner/Wood/similar mold type players alongside KAT. Simmons game is just not built for it.

You've decided that despite Simmons incredible level of skill he's a bad fit for our team. I've decided that because of Simmons incredible skill level he's a great fit for our team. We disagree. No big deal. There is no reason we need to agree.

Fair enough. Before ending the discussion here I just have one question. How do you see Simmons impacting the team?
More specifically, what things does he bring that we lack at the moment and how does that change things for us?

This is a copy and paste from my post at the top of page three.

Simmons is one of the few best defenders in the NBA, an incredible playmaker. a fast break virtuoso, a guy who fills the rebounding defending role we so desperately need.
