I like Kat as an MVP candidate. Why not? Kat is a top 3 big man in the game who has the skills of a guard. We wouldn't be a .500 team without him.

He has the ability to do it, but I don't think Towns takes over games consistently enough to win an MVP award even outside of whistles. It's not even always a bad thing, but KAT is a team-first player and willing to play within flow and make the right passes.

Embiid (37.5%), Giannis (34%), Lebron, Durant, Jokic (all roughly 31%) all have much higher usage rates than Towns (27%) ranking right next to Porzingis and ranking 27th. If he got more whistles (he's starting to get more) and consistently asserted himself as the focal point of offensive action on a more consistent basis... he gets closer to that conversation.

Follow-Up

Towns has started to have some league wide narratives change about him as he’s paired individual success with team success this season and especially recently as the Wolves are making some waves a team that has been able to play consistent good basketball.

Towns has shot 120 free throws in his last 13 games and 94 over his last 9 games only averaging about 30mpg. Could he finally be getting the whistle?
