Here's the fun fact I wanted to share since we've signed him.

David Robinson didn't join the NBA until he was 24 years old. He played till the age of 38. Darko has literally about as much wear & tear on his body as Robinson did at his age (considering the minutes he played at the Navy) since Darko played about 50 games a year at 17 minutes a night for 5 seasons. That's the equivalent of a college player having played 6 seasons (30 games a season) at 35 minutes a night. Keep in mind, he often didn't play until garbage minutes (meaning: no effort), so he's preserved himself pretty well (joke!). I'm really excited to see a motivated, happy Darko and the effect he'll have on the team.

From the Pioneer Press today 7/13.

Briefly: The Timberwolves announced the signing of free-agent center Darko Milicic, who agreed to terms on a four-year deal worth $16 million in guaranteed money earlier this month.

Is this in accordance to the 4 year, 20 million dollar contract or did we actually sign him for less than initially reported? How would incentives work against the cap?

I believe it's 5 million/year, but the last year is partially guaranteed.

Read closely. The last year has only $1M guaranteed.

Yup, read the guaranteed part, hence my questioning what can be done with incentives or not. Since the last year is partially guaranteed, that makes sense; though I was unable to find that in said article.

Thanks on heads up though on the last year being partially guaranteed.

--By the way, Milicic also showed some fire when asked how he felt about the criticism the Wolves have taken for offering him the contract. “Maybe if they talk to my face it would be different,” he said of the critics. “Come to Serbia, (see) if you have the (fortitude) to say something like that to me. … They’re gonna talk. That’s what they do.”

I swear to Yahweh that people are complete morons when it comes to assessing this deal. These two passages are in the same article.

From Ball Don't Lie...

If you're unfamiliar with Kahn's work, understand that a good mate of mine, completely unsolicited, sent me a text Wednesday using words I couldn't hope to replicate in polite company, whilst wondering out loud if the Wolves GM might be eligible for a certain type of bus pass. Also, he signed Darko Milicic to a four-year, $20 million deal earlier this month.

Ok, Kahn is a moron in need of a discounted bus pass. Moving along...

Listen, signing Darko Milicic isn't the end of the world. Given starters minutes last season, he managed just under 12 points, two blocks and eight rebounds. And for a salary that is less than the league's average, this isn't completely and utterly terrible.

Wow, signing a 7' center to a 5 mil per deal who can play defense, pass the ball well for his size, and put up 12/8 with 2 blks despite admittedly being out of shape isn't 'completely and utterly terrible'? Is Dwyer even trying to hide his contempt? My guess is he started writing the article using the Darko signing as the main punchline because, hey, everyone else does it. About half way through he figures to look up some stats to justify his stance because surely they must be terrible and holy **** they're not even THAT bad. Looking back at the 500 words he doesn't want to edit he decides to throw this little snippet out at the end of the article, perhaps in a last ditch effort for journalistic integrity or perhaps to put it so far out of the way that people don't realize how this cripples a major point made earlier in the article.

Kahn should stay far away from TV cameras until he proves he can build an NBA team, but moves like Darko of all don't make me think he's incapable.

His method was goofy and quirky at first, wasting picks on all those PG's but in the end he seems to have gotten it done.

These kinds of reactions are the weirdest part of the whole Kahn saga to me. Why do people who (I assume) aren't fans of the Timberwolves get so passionate about what Kahn is doing.

It's like, "I don't care about the Wolves or Minnesota at all, but I'm SUPER PISSED that David Kahn is doing a less than perfect job managing that team!"

thanks for the link. it helped me to get to know darko a little better. didn't it seem like the white haired interviewer asked darko identical questions that had already been asked?

that article was one of the worst articles I've ever read. I mean how could someone really write such crap? since when is it okay to call people (Please Use More Appropriate Word) if you want to be taken seriously. of course, if you disagree with what Kahn does feel free to speak your mind but do it in a professional way rather than acting like the ex-girlfriend that got cheated on. I can't believe people like him have such jobs let alone get paid for writing such BS.

Part of it is big-city media who have no idea what is going on out here, part of it is just "piling on" mentality.

If Rambis had benched darko in minny all year on a 29 win team with no reason to tank, and we traded him to NY where he played well for 24 games, the big media outlets would be crucifying Rambis for benching darko and calling donnie walsh a genius.

Kahn has made some questionable moves, signing Darko was not one of them.

25-year old Darko Milicic gets a 3-year $14.6 mil deal, with a partially guaranteed fourth.

34-year old Brad Miller just got 3-years, $15 mi.

And look at these other guys:

Amir Johnson agrees to a 5yr $34M contract with the Raptors.
Channing Frye signs a 5yr $30M contract with the Suns.
Drew Gooden signs a 5yr $32M contract with the Bucks
Amir Johnson agrees to a 5yr $34M contract with the Raptors.

Darko's 25 yo, 7' 1", and a probably starter?

I don't get how anybody can be knocking the price-tag for Darko.

LOL! I think probably two thirds of my posts are positive, but I definitely think Kahn has made some mistakes as well. I call 'em as I see 'em, and only time will tell.

My problem with Darko isn't his contract, it's that Kahn has reshaped the roster and the 2010 draft around him.
Zach Randolph + Kevin Durant >>>>>>> Greg Oden. Bob Whitsitt>>>>>> Kevin Pritchard.
