If we trade Love, D. Lee would be the last PF I want. Let's get a PF that compliments Pek on defense, and not take on a sucky version of KL with a max contract. I'm thinking Horford, a perfect combo of defense and offense with a jumper to stretch the floor for Pek. Or maybe Ibaka.

Horford: Atlanta would be left with a starting frontcourt of Love and Millsap.
Ibaka: Agree that they can probably create the best package, but do we really want to trade him to a division rival?

An odd moment from the Wolves’ session with Mexico City media members after Tuesday’s practice: Surrounded by cameras and recorders, Wolves star Kevin Love looked up like a man seeking a lifesaver and called for help to a team public-relations man after a reporter asked if this is his last season in Minnesota.

Love otherwise didn’t reply. The P.R. rep immediately called for “Next question” without hearing exactly what the offending question was.

They may trade Millsap for Asik on Dec 15th so having Love-Asik combo would be great for them.

As would a Millsap/Asik combo. What else do they have to offer us? I'd want more than Horford.

If Kevin was smart, he would NOT opt out of the final year of his deal. Why? In 2016, he can team up with Kevin Durant somewhere. If I was him, I'd rather play with Durant than Bryant and/or Anthony.

I have a hard time seeing Flip trade Kevin Love. The only way I see it happening is if Kevin tells him either "trade me" or "I'm not signing here". Otherwise, Flip seems like the type who will hold out hope that Kevin will stay.

Did you mean Horford/Asik?

But considering Love's contract situation the trade value is not that much different, probably a 2014 pick.

As an add to this, we've joked before about Kevin Durant coming here, but could it happen?

Probably not, but lets dream a little. The key would be the extension for Rubio. If we could keep it low enough, I definitely think there's a chance.

As for what we can get from the Hawks if they trade for a Love/Asik combo, they not only have Horford(who I really rate highly), but they have the option to swap picks with the Nets as well. If that pick ends up in the lottery I wouldn't mind Horford+Nets 1st for Love.

Kevin Durant is the dream though. You never know. If we develop into "the next Golden State" then we can attract some players that want to win. OKC can always implode, especially if they continue to go out in the playoffs.

Those are the types of picks you look for in a trade like this, though Brooklyn still will probably turn it around.

Protected picks like the CHA 1st Chicago owns don't add much value to me because its most likely years down the road and you don't really know how good the team will be. Remember our pick NO got from LAC as a major piece in the CP3 trade? Ended up being #10. Austin Rivers doesn't exactly add much to the value NO got from the deal.

Also, the trade wouldn't be "Horford and Nets 1st", it would be "Horford and Hawks 1st, with the right to swap with Brooklyn"

Look at the player on the pick above Austin Rivers though, you get Andre Drummond. Bobcats pick is a pretty good one, sometimes it works out, sometimes it doesn't, but with the Bobcats you'd expect a pretty solid pick at least. I bet the Knicks are pretty damn annoyed that they don't have their own pick this year.

Don't forget though that they are in the East, and it wouldn't take much to slip them into the playoffs.

I would never just take a bet on a pick being good, especially from a Eastern conference team. Unless the team was clearly tanking. The East is just that bad, that anyone could make the playoffs, even by accident.

The notion of Durant coming to Minnesota can only be a pipedream, no? Even if we have enough cap space*, which I doubt with Love, Pek, Martin and Bud (PO which he most likely will use) and Ricky either having a cap hold or being signed to an extension, Durant will in my opinion re-sign in Oklahoma or look for another team that can actually offer the max. I just don't think Durant will sign for an amount significantly below the max just yet. Maybe if he's still ringless by the end of his next max contract but not just yet.

Then again, trades can happen and we'll be able to deal Martin, Bud and/or Pek for expiring contracts. It's just pretty damn unlikely. Also, who's to say that Durant's lady will be a Lynx by that time?

*Take it with a grain of salt, I'm not an expert when it comes to the financial aspects. I was just checking hoopshype for the numbers.

BTW, Durant is FA in '16, not '15. Bud will be off the books.

But yes, it's 100% a pipedream.

Whoops. That changes the whole thing a bit but on the other hand Ricky's extension will most likely take up at least the same amount of what Bud will receive in 2015.
