So we were really bad on defense, with or without Love. Makes sense.

Actually I don't know, according to ESPN we gave up 104.1 points per 100 possessions as a team, putting us middle of the pack. Something doesn't seem to add up.

http://espn.go.com/nba/hollinger/teamst ... rder/false

82games lists our team defense at 104.3 points per 100 as well.

http://www.82games.com/1314/1314MIN3.HTM

Soemthing is tweaked/wrong with the individual numbers. If you go through the entire team you can't find anyone who has either an On or an Off below 105. Doesn't make sense.

How likely does this sound? I'm not sure if I could see Flip going for it. Depends how much confidence he has in himself as a coach to take on a guy like Smith. In this case I think Flip has a huge chip on his shoulder and has been hearing the chatter from the critics. He wants to come out this year and make some noise. It would basically be a FU to Love.

Last time I watched Smith is when we played against Detroit this past year, and I thought he was one of the dumbest players I have ever seen.

Tspence26 again ? I dont believe, but i like the idea of getting J.Smith if T.Young doesnt work out.
I Like J.Smith, his contract is not the best, but i think he is a great player.
Very undarrated IMO with the public opinion says about him.

Having Josh Smith on this team would be the worst thing to happen since the Darko Milicic signing!

I would try a lineup featuring Deng and the Godfather.

Not saying I believe everything the guy says. Just thought it was worth some discussion.

We need that locker room presence gained from players like Thad, but I think Smith is the better player and he definitely should be an option considering our room for maneuvering.

We've been discussing this name quite a bit on some of the other threads. While I like it a lot, most are against it, I believe.

I like the fit with Rubio and Pekovic, the upgrade of a position of need (PF) and the fact that we can shed multiple bad contracts (Barea, Budinger, Brewer, LRMAM, Shved) for one horrible contract. I like:

Rubio / Mo
LaVine / Martin
Wiggins / Shabazz / GRIII
Smith / Bennett / Hummel
Pekovic / Dieng

better than:

Rubio / Mo / Shved
LaVine / Martin / Budinger
Wiggins / Brewer / Shabazz / GRIII (cut)
Young / Bennett / Cunningham
Pekovic / Dieng

If our roster looks like this, we would be paying $17m+ a year for our backup wings and would lose a prospect in GRIII and stint Shabazz' improvement through lack of minutes. I would rather overpay my starting PF than my sitting SG/SF. Not sure we will achieve an overall consensus in this regard.

I'm just happy tspence is back, the internet wasn't the same when he was gone for a while there...

As for Josh Smith, I would be fine with it as long as the Wolves are not giving up much of anything of value. I wouldn't give up much more than expirings for him. I think he could be great on D next to Pek, and I don't think he's ever been seen as a cancer in the locker room.

A Ricky-Lavine-Wiggins-JSmoove-? grouping would be crazy athletic and fun to watch on the break and on D. The half-court offense could potentially be atrocious with that group though.

Smith had a really bad year, before that he had 8 good years.we just need him to play the way that he did for them 8 years and if we can do that he becomes a very valuable asset.we actually clean out a very big mess with this trade.it gives us a lot more room to develop our young players and it gives plenty of elbow room to our veterans to have good seasons.it's also nice to have a couple of big contracts to possibly facilitate a major trade.Smith is kind of like a stoutamire in that his game is a lot better with a very good point guard like Ricky Rubio.

Not really. Even if Smith got back to the production of his best years, he would still be highly overpaid and not a very good asset.

Good point when he had Bibby as his PG he was pretty effective. I like Breatnach's line up a lot as well.

I guess it's similar to a Tyreke Evans deal in that if it's Luc, Barea, Shved, and ? we're not really losing anything except some cap flexibility and the roster is more balanced.

I would rather prefer Smith ovrgrow salary at 13M next 3 years than resign Young for 10M. 3M is not a lot of money if the skills cover your needs(interior and help defense). He just shouldnt play sf.
In the end bennet, jj, mba mouthe and shved are more expensive sub players than smith is starting. We should take the better value in terms of assets going out and keep in mind that we have several rookie contracts in the next 3-4 years thats gives good room to operate ( lavine, wiggins, gorgui)

Josh Smith fits well in defense with Pek. But the biggest risk is that Pek lives in the paint so Smith will have to play stretch 4 while he IS NOT. However I like his defense, passing skills, athleticism. Smith is not scorer, he should be role player in a good team: defend, rebound, pass the ball. If Saunders can intergrate his ego, can develop in Josh role player mentality he will be good addition. My trade variant is:

KCP, Josh Smith for Budinger, Martin, Mbah, Mia 1st round pick

Pek/Dieng/Turiaf
Smith/Bennet/Hummel
Wiggins/Brewer/Shabazz
KCP/Mo-Will/LaVine
Rubio/MoWill/Shved

If we are debating PF options for Wolves...call the Bucks. They seem to have too many PF/C types. Henson would be top of my list.

1) Henson
2) Ersan
3) Middleton

Plus they see Parker getting some run at PF. And at C, have Sanders, ZP, Rad.

Wolves have the assets to land Henson. Get it done flip!

Starters:
C: Pek
F: Henson
F: Wiggins
G: Martin
G: Rubio

Bench:
C: Dieng
F: Bennett
F: Bud or Brewer (send one to Bucks of their choice)
G: LaVine
G: Mo

That leaves Bud or Brewer, Bazz, LRMAM, Barea, Miami pick all as trade bait for Bucks.

Tspence? Really? It's been proven that his source was a guy from Rube Chat. He doesn't know anything.

This is just speculation. He saw that Minnesota wants Thad to replace Love, therefore they must be searching desperately for a PF, therefore if they don't get Thad they'll go after someone else, therefore it will be Smith because what other PFs are available for cheap? It's just BS and flat out ignores the constant message that MIN wants capspace for next season.

Do I want Smith? Not really. He's dropped off the last few years and has a fair amount of minutes on his legs (25K to be exact). How much longer will his athleticism last? And what does he give you when it doesn't? But if this were, say, Bud and Brewer (and Barea?) for him, I wouldn't be overly upset. Giving up any sort of financial flexibility for him is what would piss me off.

Henson is a center, and he sucks at defense. Ersan would be okay. Middleton is a SF..

I'd much rather have Ilyasova at 8M a year than a knucklehead like Josh Smith. And that comes from someone who really likes J-Smoove (when he plays at the 4, which he doesn't like), just not on the same locker room than these young guys, and not on a 13.5M per year contract.
