"10 NBA Players Who Need to Step Up Right Now

Anthony Edwards, Minnesota Timberwolves

As was the case last season, Edwards' marginal progress somehow feels disappointing. Little steps forward tend to underwhelm if everyone anticipates a leap. Perspective is important here. When a 21-year-old is averaging 24.3 points, 6.0 rebounds and 4.4 assists on 56.9 percent true shooting (all career highs) and it doesn't have NBA fans dancing in the streets, it suggests our expectations are unfair. It's a testament to the belief Edwards' supreme physical tools inspire.

And yet, here we are asking for Edwards to level up."

Did the author finish this piece (...) somewhen in October?

I think someone reached out to the author and he said something about it being a month or so old. It makes sense

It's kind of cool. One thought comes to my brain is how much better the Jersey KG is wearing looks compared to the one Ant is wearing.

Ant nominated for Player of the Week. Yay!

Lost to Dame. Frustrating with possible All Star implications. Boo!

Going back to the play-in game, Ant is absolutely a better player. Even if Ball hadn't missed game this year, Ant is a better player right now.

I understand this but I didn't think it was the case. Ball has no structure around him, he can get away with anything he wants and his role as a playmaker on a team where he is gifted the keys to the car isn't challenging.

I liked Ball pre-draft but even during the rookie season and especially last year I like ANT as a prospect significantly more. ANT can still become the best scorer on a Championship team while Ball simply never can be that player.

I also think there's a good chance he works he way out of Charlotte. Especially if they keep losing. Look at his brother. He's been on 3 teams in five seasons. Maybe Ball stay with Charlotte because it's MJ's team, but I think he would not have embraced the market the way Ant has.

I think Ant will make the all-star team this year given all the injuries out west. Starters are: Jokic, Zion, James, Doncic, Curry.

Here are my picks: SGA, Lillard, Morant, Ant, Markkanen, Sabonis, Fox. Gobert or Davis to replace Zion. The other usually suspects PG, KL, Booker, and C3P didn't play enough. I think Ant will be ahead of Fox either way.

Yeah I think it's worth pointing out...even if he doesn't get announced on the TNT show doesn't completely end his chances of representing the team during All-Star Weekend.

One thing I wanted to see from Ant is more diversity in offense: mid range shots, short jumpers, floaters, postups etc. I dont have data to backup, but my eye test says that he has been better lately in this area.

these are the results of this summer workouts. there were multiple articles in which was confirmed that Ant really dedicated himself in the last offseason in particular to strengthen his body to better attack the rim.

Here are some interested graphs comparing Ant's career arc based on DARKO DPM to Ja/Booker/Shai and KD/Harden.
At his current age he is waaaay ahead of Ja/Booker/Shai and slightly ahead of KD/Harden.

First play against DAL Ant's post up. Also it looks like Ant has been shooting more from mid range

I know Ant's ceiling is pretty unlimited...and maybe this is a silly question to ask because we don't know...but what are peoples thoughts on Ant becoming an iconic player...like even better than KG?

Ant needs to be a more complete player - be a threat at the basket, mid range, 3s. Better passer, defender, less sloppy plays. I think his model is Jordan/PG/DWade. I think of KG as Giannis. They are different iconic players but I don't see him above KG.

That's a tough question because the answer probably comes down to how old a person is. For instance, if Edwards never wins a championship with the Wolves, Garnett remains ahead of him for the fact that I grew up with No. 21. Someone growing with Edwards likely thinks otherwise.

So to become a truly iconic player league wide...it's going to come down to winning championships...and him growing as a player kind of significantly. Hard to project if that will happen or not.
