Anthony Edwards Thread: Part Two (Read First Post)

ANT is really becoming the superstar he got the talent for. He still go dumb at times but even when it's happening, he ended the day game with 25-30 points, a couple of rebounds and assists, that's really impressive at 23.

The one thing that the OKC series showed me for CERTAIN is that Anthony Edwards should NOT be the primary ball handler. It wears him down and causes TOs. We need a real ball handler to get the ball to Ant in favorable situations. I don't want to see Ant pounding the ball for 10 or more seconds looking for an opening.

The biggest area for growth for Edwards is and will continue to be his ability to operate in the middle of the floor. He needs weapons that he can go to in the mid range and short floater area where he can pick teams apart from spots on the floor that aren't the rim or the 3 point line. He plays at one pace too often and that pace involves racing to the rim and relying on his athleticism. Having these other spots on the floor would slow him down, which will make him a more consistent scorer, get him more consistently to the line as he makes defenders react to him, and give him time to process the floor and make more complex reads.

The key for Edwards is really growth in this area. If he were to become above average in this area, he would be a surefire top 10 player. I hope he has people who are telling him to work on this part of his game and not avoid it because mid range = bad. Almost all of the best scorers in today's game spend a lot of time in this area, except maybe Tatum.

I don't know if that's necessarily true. I think it can work especially in a playoff setting if he has good off ball options. Right now as is he might have one or two. He needs multiple more. At least 3 if not 4 all on the floor. If play even a basic 4-1 cut and slash model Ant would look like prime DWade out there (as far as being a primary ball handler).

Right now our best lineup for the would be Donte, fill in blanks here, here, and Naz Reid. And that team gets crushed on the other side of the ball.

Cant agree more. I have heard somewhere: once your foot is in the paint you can slow down your game. It is a trait of great scorers, the most interesting case for me is Jalen Brunson who dominates in short and midrange. This is such a big improvement area for Edwards, because other than explosiveness and first step he has physicality to play in the post.

1. These days, you better be a star if you want the coach to let you take midrange shots.
