1. The Gobert trade was for our longterm improvement. I doubt by this summer, Connelly would have enough of a sample of their play together to publicly go back on his giant trade.

2. Minnesota doesn’t draw stars in free agency, and even if we trade for one, who knows how soon they’d want out? Towns has star level talent he wants to be here, and he’s under team control for four more seasons. I can’t think of a single player we could trade him for that checks those three boxes.

Agreed. If we move KAT what is the goal? Better fitting pieces+picks? What are the odds that any of those picks is a player as good as KAT? Maybe you can argue that we get pieces next to Ant, Gobert, Jaden that fit better than Kat, but I think we have to give it a legit shot.

Trade kat to get a starting PG that can play defense and make Rudy look better on offense , things dlo is incapable of. We have to trade Kat for that because how else will we be able to get a legit pg that can do that ?
Hopefully a few more prospects or picks included as well.

Starting PG’s that can defend are not hard to find. We got PatBev for nothing last year - we could do that next year too in free agency. We could gamble on Lonzo Ball, and probably get assets.

And I’m not sure we necessarily need a starting PG. I love point Ant, and with playmaking from SloMo and KAT, adding a better seventh man PG might be enough, along with MacLaughlin as our third stringer.. I think if you started a guy like Alex Caruso next to Ant as a point of attack defender, we’d look pretty great.

We could promise to start him, so he has a chance to do better on his next contract than if he stayed as a sixth man in MIA, with their stars aging out.

I agree, most players have a negative view of cold Minnesota. But Oladipo went to college in Indiana and played pro ball there several years, so I don’t think the weather would scare him. Hard to leave sunny Miami, but if he’s a starter on a younger, up-and-coming team, it may be a better opportunity. I don’t know.

Well said. We also need to remember that going forward, Edwards and McDaniels will be making much more money. Thy won't be salary-matching, but it's money that will be on the books. We will have four guys over $20 million and then go all the way down to $2 million, with only Prince and Anderson in-between at the moment.

If the Wolves don’t make a trade for Conley or Lowry, I actually think two or more contributors is the more likely course.

DLo for MLE-to-$20 mil player we can use on a 2 year deal PLUS a $10-15 mil unproductive expiring.

Then combine that expiring it’s Naz Reid, to trade for another MLE-level player we can use, in a three-way trade.

I should give an example of the format. I always use (Fournier + Derrick Rose (exp) and Caruso), so let me use the two other teams

DAL GIVES: Dinwiddie and Powell (exp)
DAL GETS: DLo

POR GIVES: Josh Hart
POR GETS: Powell and Naz

MIN GIVES: DLo and Naz
MIN GETS: Dinwiddie and Hart

This deal isn’t perfect. Maybe DAL throws in Ntilinika so they don’t pay lux tax. POR needs size, but they like Hart. My point is, this is the format I think we might see

I would absolutely love Oladipo.

The perfect veteran guard next to Ant. If we can get him for DLo I’m going to book my hotel for the championship parade.

NYG just gave us a peek at his Mock Offseason. What are your thoughts on these deals?

9=====
Naz Reid and Grayson Allen to the Blazers
Jevon Carter to the Timberwolves
Josh Hart to the Bucks

D'Angelo Russell for Terry Rozier and Kelly Oubre

Ideally they never play if we are healthy. Even then, one of them usually plays well if we call on them.

That's the problem, we aren't healthy. And given Towns' issues in recent seasons and Rudy being in/out all season, we have to either be comfortable with Knight/Garza playing big minutes or we need an insurance big when we send Naz out.

I'm not seeing much of a drop off in talent from Naz to Garza/Knight. I think we'd be fine with Gobert/KAT/Garza/Knight as our center rotation.

I think Naz is better, but we have an abundance of riches at back up center.

They all have limitations (all back ups do), but with three of them, we can play the guy who’s hot and who’s the best match up. I’d rather get something in trade for Naz rather than have him walk for nothing, and hope that both Garza and Knight don’t both have bad nights, in the games they even get in.

I honestly wouldn’t worry about needing an insurance big. If worst comes to worst there’s always the option of signing one of the many vet center free agents to a 10 day if Rudy and/or KAT are out and you’re worried Knight, Garza, and SloMo aren’t enough at center. I’m sure TC has Cousins’ number still.
Rest in peace Mamba. There'll never be another Kobe.

What on earth could Minnesota add to these to make Naz for Bones or Mann worth it for Denver/LAC? This feels like a Wolves leak to up Naz’s value.

I mean both are great for the wolves no idea why other teams do those trades.

Looks like it's a done deal. Was his value that low?? I haven't seen much of him but that seems low to me.

Return to Minnesota Timberwolves
