To me, this take you’re having is wrong too. It’s not premature. He’s bound to be an all-star, and only injuries, mental issues or monstars stealing his talent can stop him from getting there. He’s simply in the ‘can’t fail’ category because of a couple of elite qualities and being at least decent at every facet of the game, so it’s time to think how to most effectively build the team around him instead of wondering if he’ll pan out.

But sure, keep living in your dream world where your criticism was actually on point and where I was and still am disingenuous, and you'll learn nothing from all this.

Yikes.

The problem with Ant, (yes there is still a problem,) is that he is still too comfortable jump shooting. I love that his shot is falling a bit better now, but this is not where he will feast long term. Ant is still shy about physical contact and does not do as well when guarded by physical defenders. He needs to work on his handle as he sometimes loses it off his own foot or is easily stripped. Ant still needs to gamble less and do a better job on defense. I could continue, but there is no point. Ant is finding success which is a positive for the wolves. Ant will hopefully have a great offseason and improve his trouble areas.

A lot of stuff here that I simply disagree with. He is supposed to be comfortable jump shooting, as he's a talented shooter. Getting a chunk of your offense from shooting means you are forcing the defender to defend you closely which means a better chance to drive, and it also means saving your energy for more minutes and it means saving your health, because more drives means getting hit, stressing your joints and your muscles by exploding, changing direction, jumping high, landing etc. He is supposed to up his shooting percentages which he's been doing all year long, and not avoid shooting.

And idk what this shying from physical contact story is based on, he's literally one of the most physical guys when it comes to attacking the paint, it's actually refreshing how much he seeks contact and how effective it is.

And his handle is just fine for a wing, but surely he can improve it a bit. He is keeping his turnovers pretty low considering his usage rate, so this is not really a weakness and it's baffling that you're pointing it out, but one can always do even better I guess.

And defensively, Ant has bad periods, but I would attribute that to inexperience and fatigue, but really, one in ten rookies is not an awful defender, so it's nothing to be worried about.

So yeah, when you have a guy who's 19 and has played like a top 20 player in the league in the last couple of months, I don't see how you do anything but praise the Gods and enjoy the ride. And yet we have people nitpicking his weaknesses, like he's supposed to be a flawless MVP candidate in year one.

Rookies are like lumps of coal ... some become diamonds - some do not. I like that he has a diverse skill set even though it’s inconsistent early on, likewise, his game flow and decision making are also questionable largely due to lack of team leadership. Finch has helped this team in that respect and clarify roles, but we must find that player to lead this squad... Ant

Sure. And just imagine how awesome Edwards will be if he's ALREADY playing like a top 20 player in the league...

Just having the right mindset towards winning and not getting caught up in your own hype. Ant doesn't exactly seem like a humble player.

Humble players are Seldom the best players. It's nice if they can be great and humble, but those two things almost never go together.

Wow. I had no idea.

I was just talking smack how Ball was the only player in the class with superstar potential...

What a talent. He can get his shot anytime in multiple ways, finish with contact, and then the springs.

Congrats, Timberwolves fans and front office.

Edwards is playing close to a Donovom Mitchel level at this point. For over a decade I have wanted the wolves to get themselves a star wing. We have been i9ncredibly fortunate with bigs but unfortunate with wings. Jimmy Butler is probably the greatest we have ever had and we had him for about 18 months.

Anthony Edwards is exactly the kind of player I have been hoping for. It's still not a sure thing that he will become the player we need but every indication is that he can be. For that alone I am stoked, The Towns pick and the Edwards pick are two major gifts. WE have a chance to do something big here.
When luck shuts the door skill comes in through the window.

I want to start by saying something not so much directed to you, but rather to everyone because it needs saying. Of course Ant will likely improve as his career progresses. He is on the young side of 19 (he doesn’t even turn 20 this season.) His defense, shot mechanics, comfort from the NBA 3, decision making, ect... should all get better with time. At the same time, we have seen what happens when it doesn’t. We hoped for Maple Jordan, we got Standrew Wiggins. I believe a big part of that was coaching and culture. I believe Thibs and Mitchell both did serious damage to Wiggins and I believe Wiggins didn’t hold himself accountable enough either. I don’t want to see Ant be lead down that path. Under Finch I have a lot more hope that he reaches his true potential.

Ant’s handle is solid at times and sloppy at times. He loses the ball without it being poked away and has to go grab it. When defenses play pressure his handle becomes less steady (not unsteady, but less steady.) Jim Pete talks about Ant not being comfortable with contact and he is correct. Though he can sometimes finish through contact, he is hesitant to drive into people and initiate it. His shooting percentage inside the paint also goes way down when the refs are holding their whistles and his defenders get into him more. I am sorry if you don’t see it, but go back and rewatch game tape, it is there.

Ant’s defensive woes often come down to effort. It could and likely is to a degree conditioning, but I also think it runs deeper. Ant has the scorer mentality that often traps gifted players. A lot of dangerous guys see defense as a thing they gotta go through so they can go back to scoring. But the elite stars see defense as the priority and offense as something that will come to them. I hope Ant finds that elite mentality, if not he will fall into the Dlo trap.

Ant is a talented kid with an ego that will likely sink him. He says things like I will do what coach says for now but then my shot will start falling and then you will see. Recently he stopped smiling when he is losing and seems to be playing with more passion. Hopefully his ego drives him to need to win rather than to need to be right. If let’s Finch work with him he will get better.

We have a winner. Close the contest, pack up your bags. I didn’t think a winner would present himself so soon, but he has. Congratulations, you’re the moron of the day. To win this award you have to say things that are ignorant, wrong and flat out dumb. You’ve managed all three by saying “Anthony Edwards ego will cause him to fail.” Wow. I am dumber having read your wall of jibberish. So you don’t like him because he is self assured and talks a bit different. Gotcha.

Fortunately, Finch loves Ant’s belief in himself. You can go back to eating Cheeto’s in your moms basement. I mean seriously, what the **** is wrong with him smiling in pure joy when he plays? Have you lost your mind? Do you read the crap you say out loud before hiting send? You sound like a sociopath. I have never seen a fan base dismantle their own star as viciously as you guys do. Edwards is coming off a 3 game stretch where he became the first teenager ever to score 90 points, pull 20 rebounds and dish 16 assists in a 3 game stretch.....yet you predict he will bust because he smiles too much for your liking. Makes complete sense!

Your fun. It must be nice to ignore what people actually say and invent what you like just so you can insult them. Invest in some reading comprehension books and try again.

Yeah, I didn’t fabricate a single word. You said, and I quote, “Ant is a talented kid with an ego that will sink him.” You then go on to speculate that Ant openly defies the coaches of his shot is falling. That’s all bs conjecture on your part that serves no purpose but to diminish Ant to promote your narrative that he is a selfish, stupid player. Facts.

It makes way more sense for you to cheer for Ant. Support him. Buy a Jersey. He is 19 years old and giving everything he has for the Wolves and their fans. Every other team and fanbase would be thrilled to have Ant on their team

Here's a thought to ponder, how good would Edwards season have been if he had a typical off-season to prepare? Most years rookies have 3 months to work with the coaching staff, play in summer league, and adjust to NBA life. This season there was only a couple of weeks. If Edwards had been better prepared, the time he struggled (first couple of months) might have been significantly reduced. Imagine if Edwards had hit his stride after 10 games instead of 35.

You omitted the word likely. I cannot put it any more simply, you misquoted me with a paraphrase and the actual quote. It completely changes the meaning. As for the next part of your response look up the 2/3 1/3 Finch ratio. Ant came out and said he will listen to Finch for now but once his jumper starts falling he will do things his way. Ant still doesn’t do the 2/3 1/3 going 2-9 from 3. 9 3s out of 19 shots and a few long jumpers to boot. As for selfish, I didn’t say that at all. I said he has an ego that makes it hard to listen to Finch but when he does listen to Finch he gets better. If you watched tonight’s game you saw examples of everything I talked about above (the stuff that you didn’t respond to.)

I appreciate what Ant has done, but I also want him to become a HOF legend who changes the franchise. A big piece of that is his improving on his weaknesses. There is nothing wrong with calling them out in a thread about a player. It isn’t the same as hating on them or putting them down, it is assessing them.

This plus imagine him having KAT healthy and finding his stride alongside a winning team playing defense like they want to be in the playoffs. Ants class also gets 10 less games to break rookie records and develop their game for next season.
