Kessler shot 20% from 3 pt, but was thought of as a good shooter in high school. His college coach seems to think he has the potential. But man, I just don't see it. He hoists his shot off his shoulder like Lonzo did in college. Lonzo was able to revamp his shot and turn into a respectable shooter, so maybe there is hope for Kessler. He also can't score from the block. He was 12-26 with those opportunities which puts him in 33% percentile for his position. Like I said -- he's a project -- but most bigs outside the top 10 are big projects, so there is nothing unique about Kessler in that regard. I suspect he'll need some seasoning in the G-League this year and then the hope will be for him to be a back up 5 next year.

FWIW - There was footage of him going around with a new shot. He spent the last 2-3 months reworking it.

I see a great bet opportunity here. I bet he will play more minutes in the NBA this year than in the G League. How about $20. I'll trust you for it if you'll trust me.

I just thought about why Connelly wasn't too concerned with Kessler's body fat%.

Since he first arrived in Denver, Jokic has dropped over 40 pounds while decreasing his body fat from 21 percent all the way down to around 9 percent. He is a completely different person. :o

Let's revisit this bet come training camp when we see what our final roster looks like. I would assume that we will still add front court depth between now and then, pushing Kessler to third on the depth chart. If we don't (would surprise me) then my guess is you would come out ahead. Even Naz ended up playing more NBA minutes his first year (only getting in 30 games, starting 11 due to injury) despite a long stint in the G-League (16 games).

I don't think it is going to work if he is as "mobile" as he was in college.

I think Kessler's shot and probably also his mobility were hindered by going to Chapel Hill. Roy is an old school coach. He doesn't want his big men on the perimeter. So Walker's shot probably got rusty. He had the green light during the season from Pearl, but the offseason is where he is going to get back in the gym to refine his shot.

I didn't realize that Walker's uncle Alec died 15 years ago at 40. Passed out while playing basketball and didn't wake up.

Looks like you would win this bet given he is going to tanking Jazz team

You really think we make the trade for Rudy? I was giving that no more than 5% chance of happening. OMG we did. I'm in shock.

And just like that...Walker Kessler exceeded all expectations and became Rudy Gobert.

I had a bad feeling about him but I talked myself into liking him, and hoping he would be a better backup than Naz defensively at least.

Should we hang his jersey in the rafters?

Oof. Not excited that we had to give up Kessler. I had high hopes for him and will be rooting for him in Utah. I think he’ll be a solid 12/10/3 guy on high efficiency, with high IQ plays, at his peak.

I fear we’ll regret this trade, not because of the picks, but for giving up Kessler.

Best of luck to you Walker Kessler. Thanks for your service to the Timberwolves.
