I'm a huge Ware fan, but if they're tearing it down, why would they want 31 year-old Randle?

And wouldn't Ware be one of the main pieces they build around?

Tearing it down is probably a bad choice of words. They would obviously have to buy in on Randle (and offer an extension?). Would give them a core of Bam/Randle/Wiggins/Hero. Who knows.

I probably would...

I like the version of Randle that we've had since returning from injury a lot more than I thought I would.

But I hate Rozier - and he's coming off a disaster of a season. I like that he only has 1 year remaining, but I would try everything I could to move him.

But, I love Ware. He was a guy I was hoping we could steal in the draft because I love his upside. I think he'd be an amazing understudy to Rudy for a season or 2, and then he'd be a true part of our long-term core with Ant and McDaniels.

Rozier was one of the worst players in the league this season...he was getting DNPs during end of the season. The Rozier trade has been a disaster for Heat...not sure I'd want him here.

He can play 3rd string pg lol
Not sure if that Ware juice is worth the squeeze. But he might be worth it?

I get why people want him to start, but I don't know if it's in the team's best interest. I put his role like a Lou Williams, a Jamal Crawford, a Jordan Clarkson. His game isn't well-rounded enough to be vaulted into a second or third option in the starting lineup, which is what would happen here if he was inserted into the starting lineup next year. He would be the second or third option behind Ant and possibly Jaden. I don't think that's enough offensive firepower.

That's the importance of holding on to Randle, or replacing him with another form of offensive firepower. This is where I still think a Kevin Durant option carries some credibility, as long as McDaniels and Reid aren't sacrificed in the process. Practically anyone else could be fair game theoretically.

If Naz isn't ready to start then neither is Julius Randle.
Randle isn't any better than Naz.
Give Naz Randle's usage and you get similiar numbers with better effiiciency and lower assists, with the same defense and rebounding but better rim protection.
In fact Naz will be a better value salary wise because he won't demand the level of compensation Randle will because he hasn't ever had that kind of usage.

The long term future of the PF position may actually be Jaden McDaniels, with DDV slid over to the 3 and an actual player or two under 37 with PG skills brought in to play the position. Opens up minutes for TSJ and Clark too.

Draft Yaxel Lendeborg as a beefier switchable understudy at the 4.
Randle can either walk or get traded and Naz can either stay or be traded for a PG if we can land one.

I don't even think it's close...Randle is WAY BETTER than Naz. So many stupid turnovers....super streaky....doesn't move his feet on defense. You can give the ball Randle and he makes a play. If Naz isn't shooting well he has only energy value. Great player off the bench but we would be cooked without Randle.

Naz allows bit too many easy blow-by drives on defense

Pre-injury Randle was close.

But the player we've had since coming back is light years better than Naz.

I love Naz and think he is super valuable. But you are right...sometimes on defense it is like his feet are in cement. He also makes careless turnovers and fouls too much...probably because he isn't moving his feet very well. That said, when he is shooting well, he makes us close to unbeatable.

Neither Randle or Naz can take Rudy's place long term. If the plan is to get rid of Rudy and replace him in the starting lineup with Naz and roll with Naz and Randle it is a mistake. If you want to trade Rudy, I get it...but he is WAY more valuable than some of you realize. For us to win the championship we need the end of the regular season Rudy, and a more consistent Naz, Naw and DDV.

Hey, I wanted to get rid of Randle for anything around Christmas...I just wanted his cap space. I was so wrong. This team is better than last years team since he came back from injury.

Agreed. We can not start Randle and Naz.

There will be lineups where they can play together some, but it can't be our default - from a defensive and rebounding standpoint.

If Naz is willing to come back as a 6th man at a reasonable deal, I'm all for resigning him. If he's looking to start or for more than 18-20M, I'm looking into moving on.

I’ve always thought it was a foregone conclusion that Naz would decline his $15 mil player option. However, with a failure to make another big jump, like he usually does each off-season, a pretty poor defensive regular season and playoffs, and only one team with actual cap space to offer him more than the MLE, maybe he picks it up and waits for next year? Alternatively, MIN could offer him a new deal or an extension if he really wants to stay here.

But with PF Randle’s great playoffs, and the defensive woes the team would face with a Randle-Naz front court, I’m not so sure what happens with Naz this summer. He has certainly lost some negotiating power.

Randle's playmaking is his advantage, but his playmaking was also atrocious for large swaths of the regular season.

Let's see what he looks like against OKC instead of one of the slowest and smallest teams in the league in the Lakers and a Curry-less Warriors team that would have won about 35 games without him.

Naz has not helped his cause by simply being atrocious lately.
All the fouling and turnovers have been killing our 2nd unit, but at least he tries on help defense and to protect the rim unlike Randle.

He's looked good since coming back from injury (24-6 record).

GS was the best defense in the league post Butler trade. And they're better on that end without Curry.

I love the story of Naz, but if he isn't shooting well, he's virtually unplayable. He's not a starting player on a good team. He's "instant offense" off the bench.

His defense during the playoffs has been… troubling. Plus he is getting in serious foul trouble way too often.

Not sure if it is realistic and feasible, but:

SAS IN: Naz Reid (sign-and-trade)
SAS OUT: Keldon Johnson, #14

Why for SAS: they can draft Harper and assemble following roster Wemby-Reid-Barnes-Sochan-Vassel-Harper-Fox-Castle

BRO IN: Keldon Johnson, NAW (separate sign-and-trade), #17 pick
BRO OUT: #19

Why for BRO: collect assets.

MIN IN: #14 (SAS), #19 (BKN)
MIN OUT: Naz Reid (sign-and-trade), #17 pick, NAW (separate sign-and-trade)

Why for MIN: find a way to get under luxury tax, retain Randle, continue to rebuild roster by using team friendly rookie deals. Use 14th, 19th and 31th to draft young players who fit. Let say it will be Sorber, Carter Bryant and Joan Beringer (draft and stash)

Gobert/Sorber/Miller
Randle/McDaniels/Minott
McDaniels/TJ/Bryant
Edwards/Clark/DDV
DDV/Dillingham/Conley

Shouldn't Wolves be taking in money if they are doing Sign-and_Trade ? Also can't Nets just directly sign NAW in Free Agency ? Why would Nets want S&T ?

So I saw a discussion on Wolves twitter based on Hollinger/Duncan proposing a $150M/5 yr deal for Randle on their pod...my first thoughts were doesn't this feel like a low-ball offer for Randle ? I mean Brandon Ingram signed a 3 yr $120M extension few months ago and that dude is barely on court half the time...I know Nets are the only team with cap space but I think Randle would be expecting for a better offer than $30M AAV which would make him like 70th highest paid during next season...that's way below his level of play, especially considering his playoff performance.

Maybe? Three weeks ago, we’d have said $30 was too much.

We know he likes this team, and he likes Finch, and his wife reportedly said they love living in Minnesota. Five years might make it palatable (though he’d probably want a player option on the fifth year). He gets to play on a contender where he has a huge role, but isn’t expected to carry the star role, which the quiet Randle never liked.

I know people mention that only BRK has max cap space, but he may be acquired by other teams in a sign-and-trade, or the third team can buy BRK’s space. But I don’t think Randle is at the top of the list of trade candidates (Giannis, Trey Young, Zion, Markannen, Durant) so there isn’t a lot of incentive for MIN to trade him. With free agency and trade market limiting his chance to go elsewhere, I think he’s here next year - what that number is, I’ll leave to Tim Connelly.

Yes and no. No other team is giving him five years. $150 is a lot of guaranteed money. More than he’ll get elsewhere. The one potential suitor that can cut money and is a decent fit is the Pistons, but I don’t think they’d do 150 guaranteed. Plus, we could structure it as a 4+1, giving him a player option in year 5, which would mean if he’s still at an all star level, he could get one last big payday at age 34 instead of 35. Is that enough to sell him on an average of 30 per? I don’t know.

They indicated that if Randle opts out, we have about 50m under the second apron to re-sign Randle, Naz, and NAW. If Randle signed 5/150 with 8% raises, I think it’d start next year at about 26. Can we squeeze Naz/NAW into the other 24? I doubt it but maybe.

I think Randle will looking to maximize his value...he took a slight discount contract already when we was with Knicks in 2021 when he was coming off a All-NBA season. I am not expecting to take a team friendly contract again.

Return to Minnesota Timberwolves
