I think I have cooled on Bones as well. I initially saw him as a Jaylen Nowell replacement with some team control, but as I looked into it, Malone plays unflashy Bruce Bronson in front of him. Hyland is high energy, but he often abandons his team defense responsibilities.

Look at the guys Malone would play in front of Beasley. Yeah Bones is not perfect, but he wouldn't be available if he was. Having 2.5 years left on rookie deal is HUGE for our salary situation.

Bones is ass. Last thing we need is another guard who is ass at defense, can't create, and plays iso a lot.

The Jury is still totally out on the Gobert trade. If we win a title with him I will be quite happy we made it. If the Jazz win a title with Kessler I will regret it. I was the biggest supporter of Walker Kessler on the board and predicted we would draft him. If given a choice to go back in time and stop the Wolves from making the Gobert trade I would stop it.

Meh on Kessler he is the type that will look decent his first few seasons then stall and be average and overpaid there after.

Please tell me how you know this? I would love to have the ability to predict the future like that. I believe he is doing better his Rookie year than Gobert did. He's pretty much Gobert Jr.

What are you on about? Neither of those players equal a ring. They are both super limited players on offense and defense. Rings come from teams that have players that can do both sides of the coin really well or have a generational player on their team or both.

Gobert is not that guy, and trading that mountain of picks for him was clearly a massive mistake that most of us saw coming.

Bones is the same. He's a defensively limited player who can't playmake. He's got so many limitations.

I thought Wiseman would be very good. Looks like I was wrong. You didn't think he would be very good. Looks like you were right. 2.5 seasons in the league have shown this to me.
A little over half a season in and Kessler is playing like an all star in the making and you seem to know he will be nothing special despite how well he's playing. I would love to have that ability to predict the future.
Out of curiosity how did you feel about Kessler at draft time? Was I more right about him than you based on what he's shown so far?

DLo and DLo to the Suns

Bleacher Report’s Eric Pincus cited league sources that believe Phoenix could be a possible destination for D-Lo, who is reportedly a top trade candidate for the Minnesota Timberwolves. The two sides were apart on a contract extension, and because the Wolves will be above the cap this summer, they can’t afford to lose him for nothing in free agency.

Russell shouldn’t be the Suns’ long-term answer at the 1 beyond the CP3 era, but as a backup and stopgap starter? There are certainly worse options than a guy who’s averaging 17.8 points and 6.2 assists a night on a career-high 46.6 percent shooting from the field and a career-high 39.1 percent shooting from deep.

The difficulty is in finding a trade that properly compensates Minnesota, since expiring contracts do them little good. Crowder, Shamet and Saric make up enough salary to balance out Russell’s $30.3 million deal, but an unprotected pick is a necessity to avoid including Cam Johnson. That group of incoming players is a tad underwhelming, and it also screws over the Wolves’ depth at point guard, so Cam Payne takes Saric’s place:

That might not be anywhere close for the Timberwolves. Even if they’re looking to trade Russell, that doesn’t mean they’re content punting the season by not getting a starting-caliber point guard in return. If that’s a requirement, a third team would need to be looped in unless they really like Payne for some reason.

Honestly, I've wondered about potentially getting involved in Crowder talks (even if he doesn't end up here). This could be a nice way to do that. Miami is a rumored option for Crowder, so a person could potentially see him wiggled into Russell/Lowry discussions.

Either of those players could equal a ring. The picks we gave up could be more or less worthless. Time will tell. However, since we could have Kessler and all those picks back at this time I would cancel the deal from ever happening if I could. As for Bones I think you are completely oblivious to IMO his obvious talent.

Nope, but it's better than him sucking as a rookie. I think based on what we've seen so far he will be somewhat Gobert like. Time will tell.

Is that why Gobert is playing so well right now? Averaging his rookie numbers? Cause he's a core piece of a championship team?

It's not too early to say it was a bad trade. Try finding someone who's not trolling to agree with you.

The picks will never be worthless until conveyed. If we had all of those picks we could have traded for another player. Saying they could be worthless is the most stupid **** ever. If picks could be worthless GMs wouldn't be salivating over them.

And Minnesota is the best place to get picks because we are historically bad franchise. So if anything our picks are extra awesome.

Bones? Obvious talent? You said the same ish about Gobert in the summer. Bones has so much obvious talent that he's averaging below 40% FG from the field and is averaging 12 pts on 10 shots.

He's a chucker and not a good one. Not to mention his defensive liability and terrible TO/AST ratio.

He's basically Nowell with worse overall shooting and a better 3pt shot.

over the last few days, I have seen some big Minnesota sports radio guys (who normally cover Vikings most of the time) have started the talk on twitter of trading KAT to keep Naz. Some Wolves fans in the comments want to trade KAT even before current trade deadline lol :banghead:

By waiting for agency though, Naz can get any contract up to the max, but should have several bidders who own their MLE, and offer a deal starting at $11.5, and possibly more.

I've seen in a couple of places that the NBA average salary for 2022-23 is $10.79M, though I'm not positive if that is the actual figure. Based on the CBA, Naz could be extended with a first-year salary that is 120% of the average salary. That would mean that an extension would start with $12.95M in 2023-24 (which would be $42M/3 years).

Good catch. Thank you. This year’s MLE is $10.49. I had to look it up, because I read so many projections for years leading up to it, that I always forget! And you’re right about the 120% raise too on both.

My point was that, like many good players, the CBA rules limit what they can get in an extension, and it is far more likely Naz waits until free agency. They really need to change the extension rule.

The MLE and average salary are two different things, though they tend to be very close in value.

Also, I think if the Wolves were willing to offer Naz more than next year's MLE in an extension (which they can do) there would be a decent chance he'd accept. At that price I'd rate Naz as roughly neutral in trade value, which would give Minnesota the chance to trade him for another rotation level player at a different position.

Bones for Nowell.

That's about the only trade that I'd be in favor of. Both are truly horrific on defense and streaky on offense. Ideally, I'd rather the Wolves find a way to replace Nowell's minutes with a good perimeter defender.

Return to Minnesota Timberwolves
