the way Evans has finished the season, answering questions of ball-handling ability, i would wager a guess he could be a top seven pick.

Evans to the Wolves assuming Griffin, Rubio, and Thabeet aren't options.

Rubio.

If he declares, do what it takes to get him. We have the pieces to do it, and if he ends up on any other team I'll be devastated. Get it done. If he doesn't declare, I really like Evans or Thabeet, and really like Chazzle Dazzle's idea.

Clarification: Chazzle Dazzle's idea from page 4 of the 'Ideal Draft' thread

Not necessarily. It might mean, that he is very good with a low volume of shots but he doesn't have the skills to create his own offense consistently.

OT: Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't it Wayne Ellington that used to post here? He's certainly been blowing up. He's not a good fit here, but DX has him available with the Boston pick...

Anyone ever see this: http://www.nba.com/2009/news/features/d ... .20090318/

NBA.com: Minnesota has one franchise guy in Al Jefferson and then a bunch of role players. The Timberwolves also have three first round picks saved up. Give me a lottery pick with star potential, a mid-first rounder and late first rounder that you think could step in right away and help a team.

Stanco: Arizona State's James Harden has star potential.

At 6-foot-5, he has great size and he does so many things for the Sun Devils. He can attack the rim or shoot from deep, yet he also sees the floor exceptionally well. He's a southpaw who goes left a little too much, yet that's something he will improve upon. I just love his demeanor. He's always poised and has a natural leadership quality that makes others want to follow him even when he's not saying anything.

As for a mid-first rounder, how about Budinger? Budinger was a volleyball star in high school and it shows in his balance. He plays with great fluidity and timing. He also shoots really well from deep and stays remarkably poised regardless of the situation. However, 'Zona fans have been waiting for three years to see him absolutely dominate. They haven't seen it yet.

For a late-first round pick, I'm going with Wake Forest's James Johnson. I get the feeling he'll slide.

Johnson isn't as highly regarded as his teammate Aminu, but he has a better set of skills. Johnson often pushes the ball up himself and is quite adept at finding the open man in transition. He's also a bit heftier than Aminu and he's also a black belt in karate. He reportedly even won a few world championships in kickboxing as a teenager. The grace necessary to compete in martial arts is evident in the way Johnson plays, despite his big frame.

It's a lot weaker in comparrison at the top than it is in the middle. 2008 had a drop off after the first 10 picks or so, and the second tier carried into the second round. 2009 has a very quick drop off (top one, or two if Rubio enters) and, similar to 2008, a very large second group of players, to the end of the first or maybe even start of the second. So the picks that will see the greatest difference are ~3-10, right where it would hurt the Wolves the most.

Then, in regard to the extra picks 18, 23 & 28, the Wolves aren't that far behind - compared to last year.

Ooopsies, my bad. I knew it was one of those 'W' names. Big difference between Will Graves and Wayne Ellington, as apparently Will Graves has been suspended for the season for "vague reasons" :

Sorry to hear that Will, wherever you are.

He actually has not posted since the suspension. I thought that was interesting.

Underclassmen have until the end of April to declare for the draft, but BJ Mullins and Nick Calathes have already decided to enter the NBA.

Calathes is an interesting guy, he's got a bit of Marko Jaric in him and he's certainly worthy of discussion at the end of the first round.

Yeah, I like Calathes as a late-first pickup.

current .net predictions:
Brandon Jennings
Patrick Patterson
Jrue Holiday

Sherron Collins
Tyrese Rice

I'd take Ty Lawson over Patrick Patterson (who is available on their mock)...but that also leaves us drafting 5 point guards and nothing else...nothing like a little competition, I suppose. The good news is that we should be able to find a starting PG somewhere in this draft.

DX Prediction:
Gerald Henderson
BJ Mullens
Sam Young

Josh Heytvelt
Vitor Faverani
Thriving on mediocrity since '89.

Return to Minnesota Timberwolves
