Re: Trade Talk (Part Ten): Trade Deadline Edition
I wonder if the great play the last few weeks from Taurean Prince and Malik Beasley helped raise their value to the Wolves, and prevent them from getting traded? And maybe our recent defensive woes slowed down interest in dumping Josh Okogie, just in case we need him?
In my opinion, our only truly disposable matching salary was Jake Layman’s expiring.

no they are slightly below, 99% sure
Spotrac has us at $872,920 under the luxury threshold.
Any idea how much Enes costs on a vet minimum prorated against the next 27 games and playoffs?

Re: Trade Talk (Part Ten): Trade Deadline Edition
Unless a no brainer deal was offered, I am totally fine standing pat. It's been said time and time but internal growth can go a long way. Let's finish the season strong and see what a hopefully healthy squad can do. There is still an offseason to fix glaring holes.
Also, for those of you being angry at Gupta for apparently doing nothing, you have to remember it takes two to make a trade. What if the other GM simply didn't value our offered players highly enough to send good enough value in return? There's no point in making a trade if it is for the sake of making a trade and we aren't exactly desperate to make a move to appease fans, meda etc.

This is what I was talking about. That is why I think we can afford EKF. Though I am not sure of the exact numbers. Does anyone know what he would cost?

I am 100% sure that Minnesota can sign a free-agent for the minimum and remain under the Luxury-Tax. That said, I would expect Nathan Knight to be locked up instead.

Kanter/Freedom is done. Nobody is forfeiting the Chinese market for him.

The emotional fan in me would have loved a move as moves are fun.
The Wolves did the right thing. The ship is heading in the right direction and the team has a chance to host and win the play-in game game.
Let's go!

Re: Trade Talk (Part Ten): Trade Deadline Edition
I'm ok with this. I do think we have a ceiling this season, I don't see us winning a playoff series with our lack of size inside and our currently mediocre defense. That said, we can still improve. I wanted another big but I don't know how they would fit with how well Vando has been playing. I'm ok riding the current team hard, using these final games and possible pos-season run as a way to really see who we can rely on, and then making a bigger move in the summer.
When luck shuts the door skill comes in through the window.

How about Layman and a 2nd to Sacramento for no return using the exemption. Then sign people off the buyout market.

Re: Trade Talk (Part Ten): Trade Deadline Edition
Completely satisfied not making a move at the deadline. This is the most fun Timberwolves team we’ve had in 15 years. Are they perfect? No. A move on the margins to acquire some more size/rebounding would have been nice. But I’m not going to crucify Gupta for not finding the right deal.
Some of you are acting like the NBA is folding at the end of the season. We’ll have an entire off-season to fix the holes we have now. At this moment, I like the idea seeing how far our current core can go on their own without the “help” of sacrificing our bench (who just scored 70+ points a couple nights ago) and future trade assets for a short-term solution that might help us win another playoff game or two.

That wasn’t on the table. Unless you think Malik Beasley is the equivalent of Josh Richardson, Romeo Langford and a 1st Round Pick (which he’s not).

I wouldn’t have been opposed to a move like this, but we already have room under the luxury tax to sign someone to a vet minimum deal for the rest of the year so it wasn’t necessary to give up an asset to do so.

We could have converted knight and signed someone. Remember 2 ways are not available in the playoffs. Not thrilled by lack of cap space move.

That should tell you how much they love Porzy.
Dallas also released C Moses Brown a young 3rd yr player. Former College McDonalds All American. He's young over 7" and can rebound.
Return to Minnesota Timberwolves
