We can't because we owe a pick next year. We could trade it immediately after we make the pick though.

Atlanta for the trade with Payne. We must make the playoffs to give that pick however since the pick is 1-14 protected.
If we wont make the playoffs before 2020 then we wont owe anything. I just hope for my mental health that we can give the stupid pick away before that.

How would you order the Top 5 prospects, and at what point on the list would you rather trade the pick than keep the player?

I'd probably prefer to trade no matter what, but top 3 I probably need an all-star coming back.

Probably the 2 most impressive players I've seen are Smith and Jackson, and I like Ball too. I've only seen Fultz once, but I wouldn't have known he was a top 10 pick based on what I saw.

Fultz
Smith (the most complete PG IMO)
Jackson (Iggy)
Ball (worst fit)
Isaac (Ingram with less handle/passing skills)
Tatum (Paul Pierce-lite)

Later guys who could be a good fit:
Tj Leaf (similar to Chanlder Parsons),
Miles Bridges (Jusice Winslow-like, Strong 3/4, with 3pt range and good rebounder)
Justin Patton (Big 7 footer with light feet)
Ivan Rabb (taj Gibson-like)
OG Anunoby (Artest-lite, injury could make him comeback to college for another year)
Harry Giles (Was a very explosive 4, still very rust since he cameback and there are concerns about this)

I would trade the pick if we fall outside the top5 and there is a good trade on the table, but the return is the key. I wouldnt trade for a 29+ YO player or with a bad contract. I see Ball too redundant with Ricky, maybe he can score a little more, but I dont think his jumpshot is that realiable to take the risk.

I wish he was about 20 pounds heavier, but I think Jonathan Isaac is a near-perfect fit for this team's needs right now.

Yea, I was not a supporter before the season, but he won me over. After Fultz and Smith Jr he is right there with Ball and Jackson as prospects for me.

Top Tier: Fultz, Smith Jr.
Just below: Jackson, Ball, Isaac
Then: Tatum, Fox, Markkanen, Ntilikina

Still in favor of trading back if Giles slips and picking up a win now player as well though.

Monk is a sniper, but he can't play the point and he's undersized for a SG. I also don't see how he could play with Lavine.

I think he's probably 3 years away from being a positive contributor at the NBA level. NIce prospect, but if this teams ever wants to make a jump we need some guys that can help guys win now.

People thought the same about Giannis

I don't know if the Giannis comparison is helpful, but it does appear we are going to be choosing amongst a bunch of 19 year olds. You pretty much have to choose the one you think will be the best, because none are going to help you win in the first year or two.

I think he would be absolutely crazy to take the kind of risk that comes with going back to school. The upside for his stock of him coming back healthy for another season at Duke just isn't good enough. His injury history will still come into question even if he plays a full season, and then he still has to show that he is worth a top pick over the likes of Ayton, Doncic and Porter. Lets say he can work himself into a top selection. What is he going to make and extra ~50% over the his rookie contract? I would rather take the guaranteed money over potentially, getting hurt again, getting selected even later, just on the upside of making a couple more million dollars over his rookie contract.

One of the things I like about Isaac is he's shown he can blend into a team with a lot of depth. He doesn't need to be the man in order to make an impact. And I'd like to think he's learning about defense playing at FSU.

If this team ever wants to make the jump, it is going to be through adding veteran contributors that fit around our core. I'm perfectly find drafting a guy like Isaac, who might play sparingly off the bench for a few season, as long as we are confident we can bring in a vet to play in front of him. I'm tired of having to rely on these recently drafted players to come in a make winning contributions. Develop them slowly, and give them minutes when they have shown they can contribute. How many players drafted each year can actually contribute to a winning team within their first couple seasons?

He rebounds really well, gets blocks and steals, and shoots efficiently. He is super long and has great balance on his jumper for a taller player.
