I could see Dennis Smith or Frank Nitlokina due to age or a Prince for Killian Hayes deal. I think SloMo, Ant, and maybe NAW if we resign him handling a significant amount as “back up” with a younger PG as the 2nd PG as far as position.

Trequavion Smith, Jazian Gorman, Justin Powell, and Marquis Nowell from the PG/combo guard standpoint seem like could be with a look. Ricky Council at SG. Drew Timme at PF. Marcus Bagley as a dart (Dort) throw. Can’t say I dove deep knowing we pick at 53 but some of the names that seemed worth a shot.

Oscar Tsheibwe? When do we find out who the wolves sign for their summer league team?

1) I am very impressed by Anderson performance in regular season, but his inability to shoot hurted us in playoffs. Yes, we have Towns as starting PF, but I wonder whether he will be able to be as productive at PF as he was at С

2) DEN and MIA used Gordon/Green and Butler/Martin at PF, undersized but mobile and aggressive forwards, used different defensive schemes to maximize advantage in mobility

What if we draft a defensive minded comboforward who can play same role, kind of invite to attack him? Yes, I know we all have bad taste in mouth after Rosas dogmatic use of Okogie, Graham, KBD and other as PF. But. Part of the problem was always Towns and Wiggins. With Gobert and MCD it could be different. And I have perfect candidate for such role: Sidy Cissoko

Let say we have four (!!!) aggressive, physical guys on perimter Cissoko-MCD-Edwards-NAW. I know that it will require a lot of energy, but if you want an example - game vs NOP, when Gobert punched Anderson. It was crazy and wild, because our players played through with that energy.

Sorry, I misspelled Leonard Miller here. But you get the idea!

Canis Hoopus had an article about targets for No. 53 including Clark:

https://www.canishoopus.com/2023/6/6/23746427/2023-nba-draft-five-guards-minnesota-timberwolves-could-target-pick-53-amari-bailey-mike-miles-jr

"Clark was possibly the best defensive player in the entire country last season as a junior. He averaged 2.6 steals per game and put up an insane 5.1% steal percentage playing man-to-man defense in a Power 5 conference. That’s why he earned the Pac-12, National Association of Basketball Coaches, and Naismith Defensive Player of the Year awards.

His ability to defend both on- and off-ball and his finishing (shot 67.4% at the rim in 2022-23 per Synergy) made him an impactful role player. To reach that level in the NBA he will need to improve on his weaknesses — namely, his shooting. His mechanics are stiff and square in a way even his mediocre 32.9% mark from downtown doesn’t comprehensively capture. Combine that with his lack of burst with the ball, and you have a recipe for a player opposing teams may choose to ignore on the offensive end.

The former UCA star also needs to prove he is healthy after an Achilles injury ended his campaign before the postseason. Plus, at 6-foot-5 in shoes and 204 pounds with a 6-foot-9 wingspan, he’s a bit undersized to play the wing. Still, there may not be a better skill left at this point in the draft than Clark’s defensive prowess."

CBS Sports

33. Minnesota Timberwolves (via Spurs): SF Leonard Miller, G League Ignite

The Spurs made this pick and flipped it to Minnesota, giving the Timberwolves — for my money — a lottery-level talent and one of the better value acquisitions of the night. Miller has a funky-but-effective game as a big wing who can put the ball on the floor, pass and defend with versatility. He's a high motor forward who will fit nicely as they build around Anthony Edwards. Grade: A

53. Minnesota Timberwolves (via Knicks): SG Jaylen Clark, UCLA

Defense, defense, defense. That's what Clark brings to the table for Minnesota. He had an Achilles injury at the end of last season that might've pushed him down the board, but the two time All-Pac 12 defense honoree is a disruptive defensive presence worth betting on. Grade: A

I think we did very well all things considered. We acquired pick 33 for 26 and 28 2nd round picks and turned that pick in Leonard Miller who some consider a lottery talent. CBS sports graded that pick an A. You can read that analysis in the official Leonard Miller thread.
Jaylen Clark also got an A grade.

Damn it Shrink. I was posting the CBS sports grades at the same time you were. I beat you to the punch with Miller over in the Official Leonard Miller thread.

My thoughts exactly. You could swing for the fences and try and find a player at 53 who might be a better player, but would likely be a wasted pick or you could pick a guy that has an NBA level skill who you can 2-way. If he doesn't improve you get a call up and situational defender, if he does you have a third guard and end of rotation guy... not bad at 53, if you are trying to win. Safe, boring, but functional based on our needs.

dang, I like some of those guys. I watched a Terquavion Smith video and he looked so nice creating shots. Maybe the rest of his game sucks. Drew Timme...I'm always a sucker for the college star with the athleticism of an accountant. I'm 100% on board with having both Garza and Timme on the roster. Imagine how loud the cheers are when they check in at the scorer's table in garbage time.
