Per Source (H)

Miami Heat have given the Minnesota Timberwolves by end of day today to agree to terms on their last offer...according to Twolves personal who have talked with (H) within the last hour.

Miami will not have further conversations with Minnesota after tonight if deal does not happen.

The details of the last Heat offer is as follows:

Richardson + Olynyk + FRP

for Butler

Or...

Richardson + Whiteside

for

Butler + Dieng.

According to Source (H) Minnesota has been told multiple times by Miami that the Heat will not be throwing in Richardson + FRP if Dieng is in the deal.

Source (H) believes deal gets done tonight with Thibs & Tayor in agreement.

Richardson + Whiteside for Butler & Dieng.

What is "Source (H)"?

If I understood the suspension system for team forums, it would potentially be "Source (B)"anned at this point.

Absolute clown show at this point.

I like Howard, he has spirit

If a trade comes down to Richardson + Whiteside for Butler + Dieng, that's a good deal for us and still makes us competitive for the playoffs with two defensive players coming back to us, especially one in the middle.

We'd have a wing that takes on the best perimeter player every night & one who guards the BIG bigs like Marc Gasol, Steven Adams, Joel Embiid, etc.

I honestly believe KAT will have a better defensive season guarding more agile players at PF than real centers

We can't take the Olynyk deal, because we'd be waaay overloaded at PF with Olynyk, Taj, Dieng (and potentially KDB / Patton).

Olynyk would be great. We can sort out glut of power forwards later. Him and Tolliver would be great floor spacing bigs all year.

I'm putting aside the question of the truthfulness of some claims made here and elsewhere. Speaking purely hypothetically:

Richardson, Olynyk and a first rounder seems like a pretty good deal. Olynyk is highly underrated and would represent an immediate strengthening of the bench, with the option of starting should the right balance be achieved, and first-rounder is almost always a useful asset. Then again, I'm not Glen Taylor, and I don't have to pay Gorgui Dieng's salary. (Love G as a player and as a humanitarian, but he's just making too much money for what he contributes, and in the short-term at least we seem committed to building around Towns/Wiggins).

Richardson and Whiteside seems like the more likely deal, were both deals offered. It's not terrible; we acquire a decent young two-way wing and finally get ourselves a big defensively oriented smashmouth center who will be used by a coach who knows how to use big defensively-oriented smashmouth centers and isn't into copycatting what GS is doing. With Towns' defensive/rim-protection burdens lessened, he might really end up exploding this year. Yeah, I would like more for a top 10 player, but Jimmy's camp does have a certain amount of leverage right now, and Whiteside's enormous contract expires long before Gorgui's.

I don't think Whiteside is the perfect big to complement KAT. I think the perfect big to complement KAT will be someone who is fast enough and strong enough to defend both on in the paint and on the perimeter (e.g. WCS). But if we adopt the Utah approach of funneling guys toward our big shot-blocking center, I think we can have some defensive success.

Read on Twitter

Jimmy Butler has returned to Minnesota and reiterated his desire to be traded in a meeting with president and coach Tom Thibodeau on Monday, league sources told The Athletic.

Barring a change in the dwindling trade market between now and the season opener in San Antonio on Oct. 17, the Timberwolves are making preparations to start the season with Butler on the roster, league sources said.

Butler has not practiced with the team since training camp opened on Sept. 25, just over a week after he first met with Thibodeau to personally deliver his trade request. He was at the facility on Monday, sources said. The Wolves have had conversations with a number of teams — most notably with the Miami Heat, who have discussed frameworks around the promising Josh Richardson — but have yet to close a deal.

I say no to both thoes deals. Arbitrary deadlines don't phase me. If they want him come and get him. As far as I am concerned we can wait until Dec. 15th or the deadline, it just means more competition.

We use the FRP to move Dieng if we take Olynyk.

Keep Jimmy. Eventually some desperate team looking to compete will make a better offer.
