I was reading online trying to figure out the exact shotstick vs shooting button dynamic and people are saying if you use the shooting button, you have to get a perfect release to ensure a make, otherwise going to be relying on stats, which makes sense b/c I've had a hell of a time getting a perfect release. But if you use shotstick, you can make more buckets w/o a perfect release as long as your stick is going directly down. But what I don't get is does it literally have to be exactly on w/ the shotstick? I've been at the free throw line and even when I'm looking directly at the shotstick, I'm usually at least a couple degrees off. So if I'm 1 degree off, am I getting penalized? If so, I might as well stick w/ the shooting button.
Also, always going down no matter how I'm oriented to the rim is completely counter-intuitive to me. I always feel like I should be angling the shot stick depending on my orientation to the rim.
