this might be the worst offseason ever for FAs, very little money/cap space available, especially if Brooklyn decides not to spend $$ in FA

I guess it is good for us? Although I think that:
1. if the FA market doesn’t offer many opportunities, then drafting and trading become much more important
2. it might be the perfect moment to use the DET and UTA picks in a strong and deep draft like this one
3. under the new CBA, it will be much harder for TC to make any moves, meaning his decisions will require almost perfect timing and multi-factor decision-making

This last point really reminds me of top-level poker players:
They don’t just play their cards — they constantly weigh the pot odds, stack sizes, opponent tendencies, table position, and long-term EV (expected value), often under heavy time pressure. A great NBA GM, like a great poker player, has to process all these variables, filter out noise, and make the highest-value decision at the exact right moment.

No, the CBA works differently than that.

Besides exceptions, the only way to sign free agents is with cap space .. literally, the amount payroll is under the salary cap.

If Randle ($30.9) and Naz ($15) simply picked up their player options, our payroll would be $196.5 mil. If Randle was gone, our team payroll would be $165.6 mil.

The NBA salary cap is $154.6, so even if Randle opted out, we still wouldn’t be under the cap to sign a free agent.

I think the only way that happens is as part of a trade where he feels comfortable with the destination.

Gone, as in declines his player option and signs elsewhere? Negative.

If Miami's interest in him is real I'd consider something around Kel'el Ware, Davion Mitchell and filler.

Wouldn't be opposed to trying to flip him for a PG. Ware and Mitchell are nice though.

Wonder is we should not make a try to get Nadir Hifi to play PG. He play for us at summer league and got a very good season in France. Fast, shoot not bad, need to improve in defense. But he is only 22and with him and Rob, we will have 2 chances of developing a good PG. At a cheap price.

I like the Davion Mitchell idea. Good defender and shot pretty good in Miami. Maybe Mitchell S&T with Slow Mo and pick 20 for Randle.

I would be looking at Zion before I look to trade for KD.

I maybe be crazy. I’m taking chances on guys like Zion, Leonard, and Embid. High level guys who when healthy are true difference makers.

Something tells me Zion on a team capable of winning a championship would be a much more motivated and fit Zion

I like the Mitchell idea. Part of me would also be interested to see what Tre Young would cost. (I don't like Young, but it would open everything for Edwards)

Zion is the only one I'd have a small interest in. Leonard and Embiid are just never healthy, and they cost 50 and 55m to miss at least half the season.

I want Ware with Mitchell. Potentially fills our 2 biggest needs for the next 5-10 years.

Why would Miami trade Ware?!

Gotta give up something if they really want Randle.

And if they're still trying to win, Randle/Bam is probably a better play for the next couple years than Ware/Bam.

Ware had a really solid rookie year, but he still has a ways to go. Its not like they'd be parting with a star.

Would either team?

Julius Randle + Donte DiVincenzo for Tyler Herro + Kyle Anderson

Note: This trade could be done before the new league year if Randle picks up his player option. Doing that makes the trade doable with 2024-25 salaries without aggregation, as Randle makes more than Herro and DiVincenzo makes more than Anderson.

I probably don't do it myself, but I'm trying to find other avenues that haven't really been discussed yet.

Agreed. I'm tired of the combo guards. Get some real ball handlers out there, getting all our role guys easier looks, breaking down the defense and we look better.

Upgrading the IQ would be awesome as well.

I've mentioned Rudy and Randle for KD, but have either received negative or zero response. Is it too lopsided in one direction? You wouldn't be happy with this trade?
This, along with signing Tyus, would be my dream scenario.
I'd rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy.
