His contract while it isn't ideal, isn't outrageous for a starting point guard.

No thanks he’s a cone on defense too

I guess I would rather have him be elite on offense and a cone on defense with Ant, Jaden and Rudy behind him...then the opposite. Plus it's highly likely his defense improves here. Again, team matters.

P.s. he isn't just a cone he is like lowest rated in league...which is laughable if you actually watch him play. He isn't great, but he isn't abhorrent eye test wise.

You say he isn’t just a cone, then you say he is like lowest rated in the league. Is that supposed to read it’s not like he is lowest rated in the league? Asking for clarification because it is not clear from context.

I'm saying he is rated as worse than a cone statistically

This team needs another player who attacks the paint and a big, athletic young center to develop behind Rudy. If we could trade Randle for a developmental big and an upgrade at point to push Mike to the bench, that would be ideal.

Hopefully Julius can keep this up for a few weeks to ramp up his trade value

Julius Randle for Jonathan Isaac and Corey Joseph (vet min)

Why for MIN? Go back to our defensive identity. Isaac is an injury risk, but his contract takes that into account. He’s paid $25 this year, but only $15 a year for the next four, and if he gets hurt, only $8 guaranteed. He is a tremendous defender, and he could play back up center. Joseph is just a steady vet min PG for the rest of the season, until Dillingham takes over.

Why for ORL? They have three decent centers already (Moritz Wagner, Biatzde, Wendell Carter Jr (out), and Banchero (out), Franz Wagner, and Tristan De Silva to go with Isaac- they have plenty of size and plenty of defense. Randle is at least a good scorer. And like us, and few other teams, Randle can’t blackmail ORL into overpaying next year. Magic are winning now, but if Banchero’s injury won’t even be re-evaluated for 4-6 weeks, this deal could be done in three weeks, if the Magic start to swoon.

I personally don't like it, but I have seen far worse. Feels like we should be getting more back for Randle. I could be wrong

I think this is a great idea. Would probably be better as a 3 team deal. Someone else could value Randle higher, and maybe we could extract a pick. I want to focus on surrounding Ant with defense and space.

If this Conley slide continues, why not take a flier on Fultz?

I agree with both takes, and this trade would work better as a three way. What ORL could use more than Randall is a good scoring swing man. At guard they have Suggs and KCP as starters, then a huge gap in talent to Anthony Black, Cole Anthony and Cory Joseph. And their SF position is only Da Silva and Gary Harris. ORL has six good bigs on their roster right now, so Isaac could be available.

The reason I see value in Isaac is his contract. He makes $25 mil this year, but it drops to $14.5-$15 for the next four years. Even if we keep Randle, his contract will be at least $30 mil, which probably costs us Naz and NAW. Issac, like DiVincenzo, is a good contract that lasts for several years, and helps us deal with our pending financial structure issues,

No team ever won an NBA title with one all star player and Randle is the closest we have to a second all star. Unless we get an all star back, I would rather trade Naz, JMcD, or NAW for upgrades. Gobert is good but he is not an all star scorer.

What is MIA continues to be unable to come to terms with Jimmy? Would they make a reasonable third team?

MIN GIVES: Julius Randle
MIN GETS: Jonathan Isaac + Corey Joseph + 2025 DEN 1st

ORL GIVES: Jonathan Isaac + Cole Anthony + Corey Joseph + 2025 DEN 1st
ORL GETS: Jimmy Butler + Alec Burks

MIA GIVES: Jimmy Butler + Alec Burks
MIA GETS: Julius Randle + Cole Anthony

This works by December 11th, according to the Spotrac Trade Checker.

You guys do realize this is effectively trading Towns for Issac, Joseph, DDV, 2nd round picks. Why are we doing this?

The two trades would break down to be

Keep Karl Towns $49,205,800 $53,142,264 $57,078,728 $61,015,192

or

D. DiVincenzo $11,445,000 $11,990,000 $12,535,000
JonathanIsaac $25,000,000 $15,000,000 $14,500,000 $14,500,000 $15,000,000
Corey Joseph $3,303,771 (vet min)
2025 DEN 1st
Future possible DET 1st

The $27 and $30 mil savings the next two years may allow us to keep Naz, and/or control decent pieces for a future star trade.

So for me, the trade would be Towns for Isaac, DiVincenzo, Naz and 1-2 1sts, which I think is a fair return, given KAT’s supermax.

I think a big part of what to do with Randle, if we do trade him, is how ready Miller is. If they feel Lenny is ready to come in and play backup 4 to Naz, then landing a starting type of 4 isn't as important.

A trade to Memphis for Smart and Clark works financially...but, would we want to give Memphis that? A Smart and Edwards backcourt would be intense.

In years past, I considered Isaac in trades. However, I don't get the interest nowadays. He's only had one season where he played more than 60 games and that was his second season in 18-19. Similar to Towns, I wouldn't just trade Randle to trade him and this is exactly what that is.
