I think Rubio is the kind of guy you overpay.

Not only because it appears he will probably shoot well enough this year to justify it, it's also because you want your leader to feel wanted. Don't make him have to deal with it all year and make that an issue.

Sure he could take less, but it's not our money, and the salary cap is going to go up. Overpaying a little now will strengthen the relationship and could possibly end up being a good deal just because of the cap going up, and could be a GREAT deal if Rubio gets his shooting to a decent level.

If Rubio is a part of the future, let's make sure we have him locked up for the future AND happy. You make him happy this time and he performs up to expectations, the next time he has a contract coming up they'll automatically be in a better position to resign him.

Don't risk alienating a guy you see being part of the franchise for a long time, just to save a few bucks short term.

Start this new era of Wolves basketball off by showing good will and confidence that Rubio will be the player you expect him to be. The nickle and dime stuff bit us in the ass with Love, don't make the same mistake with Rubio.

is this going to be the thing now that every new contract that's reported is considered overpaid? You know if everybody is considered overpaid, then they're really not overpaid

I mean overpay according to the general public.

I think they should just give him $58 million and enjoy seeing him earn it.
