This is crazy to think. Don't we lead the league or close in technical fouls? Maybe Conley gets Ant and especially Kat to stop complaining after every call.

I have always seen him as a true professional.

Over the last few months, I have really grown to dislike technical fouls. I used to think that they were a cost of doing business, if you want to have passionate people. Lately though, I see these as selfish, damaging to the team, and disrespectful to the game. These are fouls that are so egregious that they needed to introduce specialized penalties because they hurt the fairness of competition. I have been particularly aware of technical fouls by coaches in the college game, where adult men are showing young people that it is acceptable to lose your temper and act out when things don’t go you way.

This makes me like Conley even more. Nobody has ever said Conley doesn’t play hard or doesn’t want to win - he just does it without being unsportsmanlike, and that should be applauded.

Could this be another situation similar to Rubio's second stint:

They were a great fit too. Somehow managed a positive point differential together even though the team was tanking.

I see Conley is questionable tonight. It would be nice to see him in action.

I believe it's been reported several places that he just needs to pass his physical. I can't imagine he would miss a chance to play in Memphis

Connelly also focused on Conley’s professionalism, a trait that has made him one of the more admired veterans in the league. Surrounding the 21-year-old Edwards and 22-year-old McDaniels with the right tone setters is a priority for the team, and Conley checks that box.

“The thing that jumped out with Mike was the package of player and person,” Connelly said. “We thought it was the best way to continue to grow this team and how can we best complement some of our core pieces. D-Lo did that at a very high level. We’re hoping we identified another guy who can do it in a different way in Mike.”

The Timberwolves have been an up-and-down team this season, capable of putting together spirited and intense effort one night and then, like in a white wash in Denver on Tuesday, looking completely disengaged the next. The Wolves want to instill more consistent habits and approaches in their young players, and believe Conley can be a big help with that process.

“We really want to ensure we’re putting guys like Ant in environments that that conducive and supportive of growth,” Connelly said. “I think we all know how good he’s been, and we think he’s just scratching the surface. So we want to continue to surround him with guys that have elite routines, elite approaches and are every day good examples.”

“Specific to some of our elite talent and some of our young guys we think are developing into elite players in this league, the more responsible guys you can put around them, the better,” Connelly said. “The more we can help them establish elite habits, the better chance they have of maximizing their game.”

Rudy Gay on Mike Conley Leaving the Jazz

Gay, the most grizzled player on the team, was equally shaken by both the departure of his close personal friend, and the sudden bottoming out of the roster.

“It’s a tough one because Mike is somebody I’ve known for 20 years — that’s not gonna go anywhere, but …” he said, trailing off. “He’s the guy who got everything together. … I think everybody was thrown off a little bit. He’s been the guy that’s kept me sane for the past year and a half.”

Jordan Clarkson on Mike Conley

“It’s definitely tough losing a guy like Mike — that leader, great point guard, the guy that makes everybody’s life easier on the court, and his energy off the court and what he brings to the team, a guy who was never down, I never thought he had a bad day, a guy who just took everybody for who they were. It’s a big loss,” said Clarkson. “… The guy was like Yoda, honestly. He had so many stories and had an enlightened [sense] about him that you’d just listen to him. … Those things, you don’t take for granted in this league, especially how he was as a person.”

The Jazz players are pissed at management for trading away Conley and now gonna tank the season

Congrats on getting Conley. From an fan perspective, there's no better leader and no better person than Mike. He's going to be missed in Utah far more than what the stat sheet shows. He should be able to do a ton to stabilize the ship in MN. Hoping Edwards is open to his tutoring. Something to keep in mind is that, while he's a good leader, he's pretty reserved. When he first got to Utah, it took a while to assert himself, as he didn't want to step on toes.

Also, don't sleep on Alexander-Walker (NAW) as a capable role player. Out of all the players traded by the Jazz, he was the one I was most surprised to see leave, and I really thought he had a future with the team, based on performance when he plays, and his age. He'll compete hard on D, can play both guard spots well, and while not consistent, has improved his outside shot.

Wishing Mike, NAW and Gobert the best with the Wolves.

Conley and Ant already talk after every Wolves/Jazz game.

Edwards is incredibly open to mentoring and learning. First he had Rubio, then Beverley and now he'll probably have the best of the 3 in Conley.

Conley (recently traded) will be available to make his Timberwolves debut Friday against the Grizzlies.

Advice: Conley, who was traded by the Jazz to Minnesota on Wednesday as part of a three-team deal, appears to have passed his physical and will be able to make his Timberwolves debut Friday. The veteran figures to replace D'Angelo Russell as Minnesota's starting point guard, but it remains to be seen how much usage he'll get with his new team. Anthony Edwards is expected to remain the primary playmaker, but Conley's connection with Rudy Gobert (groin) could make the lefty's transition to his new team smooth.
