Re: Jordan McLaughlin RFA Status
I have not followed this closely, thinking it would be easily resolved. What gives?
Yeah, we don’t need McLaughlin with all our guards, but we like him as our third stringer. Most games, he won’t see the court, and maybe he would prefer a different team to enhance his career. However, he has received very little money for his time in the NBA, and there are no teams out there that have guaranteed him a spot. He played well, but there are many players who have done well and ended up out of the NBA. Does he have a second skill set, say in chartered accountancy, where he can make over a mil a year?
How come we haven’t given him a Gupta special, with the first two seasons guaranteed?

If the deadline passes and the qualifying offer is neither withdrawn nor accepted, the player continues to be a restricted free agent. The team and player are free to negotiate a new contract after the qualifying offer expires -- the deadline only affects the player's ability to accept his qualifying offer.

Man, make a deal, we need him. Jmac might even have to start some games depending on how things go down. Way more comfortable with him starting than Culver at the 1 or Nowell (who did look great in pre-season game 1, just not enough to say he's ready.)

Sigh. ef this team. They've even said they are going to throw Culver at PG tonight with Dlo out. So they still haven't figured out who that guy is yet and he'll be another used first.
Just need to hurry up and get this Rosas thing over with. Sell the team Taylor!

No one wanted to pay him. He was an RFA, no one made an offer. Don’t assume we don’t sign him back next season. Just because he didn’t like our current offer doesn’t mean he hates our organization.

It's unfortunate that McLaughlin couldn't find the leverage to even get an NBA level contract. RHJ and Nowell looking good in pre-season meant there was no clear roster spot in Minnesota and it seems no other teams were willing to make him an offer.

He was an RFA and the team was putting out rumors they would defend on offers. That's why no one bothered. Players his size, and not as good, were getting signed this offseason. But I also don't expect teams that didn't see him first hand much at all to know who he is. I expect Rosas and Ryan to know and they have proved they are fools to me.
They proved it last year trading up for Culver, then starting him at games at PG. They are using Culver again right now tonight as a point guard trying to sell him instead of trying to prepare their team to win. They are proving to me to be the same level of useless that usually runs this team. Rosas will clearly be using the first half of this season to sell trade values again. Another season down the tubes. Another wasted opportunity to sign and play good cheaper players and improve areas of significant need with your other assets. Mavericks who we see tonight are rolling with Jalen Brunson this year, third year tiny nobody who can ball. Started on a real deal and developed, now he's first backup pg as they move on from JJ Barea.
I'm now awaiting Rosas exit. It will likely take a team sale. But maybe he'll have a 6-30 team half way through and I might get a gift early.

He should have told them to fly a kite, and caught on with a different team's Gleague or go euro. But I suppose his options were limited because he would have remained restricted since they wouldn't pull his QO.

Again, he was an RFA and no one made him an offer. We wanted him, that’s why we said we would defend. We are up against the cap and so we made a choice to low ball him. He didn’t like our offer and could not generate another. Next season we may be able to resign him. We will have partial bird rights. I have no idea how much he plays this season and I have no reason to believe he takes less money to go elsewhere.

Pretty disappointed we couldn't get a deal done...If he kills it with his minutes this year, it'll be bittersweet.

As well I understand they can convert two way deal to standard deal at anytime? If yes, they might do this as soon as we cleanup roster(or trade happens).

Why should I have this conversation with you? So quick with the same responses about how nobody else...Yes we know. We also know why they wouldn't but you will never acknowledge that which has been posted. And nobody else brought him over from Brooklyn and gave him a chance off the gleague but this team. They did it for a reason . They could have started Culver at PG all season long. They didn't for a reason.
I've said what they could/should have paid him a thousand times already. But yet another thing you won't acknowledge as being posted already. League minimum standard deal at minimum and a real roster spot. Obviously they didn't even offer the standard minimum. They offered a flippin two way deal for a player that is already 110% better than the 2019 #6 overall, the 2019 second round choice, the 2018 picks, the 2017 picks, and the 2016 picks this team has made. They all suck in comparison to this undrafted kid, and he's worth much more than a standard minimum or any 3rd role, much less 6th pg role.
They blew this offseason adding more point guards.
Oh yes and I totally forgot about Edwards who is clearly a James Harden style defacto PG type. Let's add him to the pile first!
Dlo, Rubio, Edwards, Nowell, Culver, Hagans, Jmac ???????? Really?
This draft was loaded with possibilities for SF/SF or SF/PF improvements for us. Free Agency had solutions.
That's all they had to do was work on the SF/SF or SF/PF "wing" roles this offseason. That's it. They failed us. This #1 overall draft pick thing was the worst thing that could have happened to this foolish front office. It completely blew their minds. If Edwards was the choice they should have planned to blow it all up and started anew around him.
There is no Gleague this season. So these two way guys aren't going to play anywhere. Especially two PG two ways buried at least 4 players down on the list.

First, I didn’t want us to draft first. I wanted a trade down and to draft a couple of good bigs. Second, I wanted us to draft Wiseman and play twin towers once it was clear no one was willing to trade for our pick. 3rd, I was, am, and likely will always be against trading for Ricky. There are plenty of vets who can teach Edwards and not cost 17 mil a year. Fourth, I agree Culver is not a PG and should not try to be. Nor should Edwards for that matter. I scanned the early posts looking for your number and all I saw was the valuation of his services, not the length or conditions you would propose. My comments were about why this happened. To my knowledge we offered him a multi year low ball without much guaranteed money and he choose to be a two way instead. My question was what would you have offered him. If you don’t want to have the conversation then that is fine. If you do please answer my question as I literally don’t know how to move the conversation forward without specific info.
P.S I don’t like small ball, I don’t like several of the recent roster moves, and in general I am not thrilled with Rosas. Yet, I believe this team is doomed until Ryan is fired and we get someone who can be a real lockeroom leader. We need our players motivated to play their hearts out, and that has not happened in forever.

With the strides Culver has shown in the preseason I can’t imagine why you’re complaining about him. It’s preseason. Why not mix things up? The Culver PG minutes looked good too. McLaughlin on a two-way deal is one of the best value deals in the league as well. Same goes for RHJ on a non-guaranteed min. You need to cheer for a new team if you’re not excited.
Rest in peace Mamba. There'll never be another Kobe.

Culver PG looked shaky against backups, try it against anyone playoff caliber and our offense will stall. When Ricky sat down we struggled to do anything resembling team basketball. That said, Nowell and JMAC both show promise and Dlo isn’t really injured, just rested due to soreness. We are not lacking at the PG position.
Culver has improved his free throw shooting, his three point shooting, and his overall understanding of our system. That said, IMO he is still not as good as he needs to be. I said when he first played for us that he is a 3 year project. Year one was rough, year 2 is looking better but it is way to early to tell anything. I know the board is high on him so I will leave it at that.
JMAC turned down an offer because he feels he is worth more. Jed is angry seemingly because JMAC is not being paid what he is worth and thus will want to leave. I don’t see him having a ton of bad blood toward us, but I don’t know him personally so I cannot say for sure. My point in the above response is that this is a business. Teams often don’t bid against themselves. We made him an offer and indicated to his representation that we would match the offers from other teams. By definition we let the market set his value. That doesn’t mean his play isn’t valuable, or that he won’t do well this year. It means no one wanted to pay him given their cap situation and roster space. This is a plus for us.

Re: Jordan McLaughlin RFA Status
I am glad he is back and is the prefect type of 3rd PG you want on the team. I am also glad to Rosas play hardball on the deal. Like it or not Rosas played this out well and called JMac bluff. Rosas's had all the power in this negotiations and in the end got what he wanted. He read the league and the players value which is what we should except from our GM. JMac shouldn't be getting many minutes at all this season with DLo and Rubio at PG and the log jam we have a wing. JMac will still get time to show up when we rest players and i like him in that roll. I don't think he is in the teams long terms plans with DLo and Rubio under contracts.
Yes JMAc's numbers look good and he pasted the eye test last year. His numbers were from a small sample size and he doesn't have ideal size and isn't a defensive stopper (which this team needs more then scoring).
