not his strength, but I wouldn't say it's a negative. He moves well, but he's more of a rim protector. Imagine if he was like Capella. Wouldn't that be awesome to have a 3man big rotation with Kat and Vando?minimus wrote:moss_is_1 wrote:Klomp wrote:I agree that we are seeing Vanderbilt can be played out of a postseason series. I think Williams moves his feet and can switch on the perimeter pretty well.
From what I read, his perimeter defense is not his strength. But I think it is more about defensive scheme and team chemistry

Kofi Cockburn enters the draft and will hire an agent. For anyone that's watched him play, is he strictly a C or could he also play PF?

He probably goes undrafted, he is huge but doesn’t have skills.

He's 7'0, 300 pounds with no game outside of the paint.
He's as much of a center as a human can be.

Cockburn is one of a handful of guys right now that were born 10 years too late. Back then he would have had a 10-12 year career. Nowadays? Well, there's good money in the Euro leagues. Or hell, come play in Australia.

2022 NBA Draft Talk: Never too soon
I read an article that says big shooters such as MPJ are basically unstoppable in current NBA. This is something that hope to see in MCD development, but he already can shoot that mid range over anybody.
What if we pair MCD with another big shooter and add a quality PoA defender / passer? It is another path to improve this team, but I can imagine for instance MCD + Jovic combo working well together. Both are legit 6'10" wings who can shoot, handle the ball.
Let's say we draft Jovic, and trade Nowell, TP for DiVincenzo, resign Reid, sign RoCo.
Reid-MCD-RoCo-Beasley-DiVincenzo can execute both high-level defense and quality offense. First year Jovic will adapt to NBA, improve body, he would be a long term project just like MPJ

But am I the only one who believes that Mobley would have been perfect for us?

No, you're not.
It's been brought up numerous times and I honestly don't know how many more times this is going to be re-litigated. We didn't have our pick and even if we did there's absolutely no guarantee we get the third pick in the lottery and are able to take Mobley.

I apologize if I seemed repetitive and redundant but I don't follow this topic slavishly...I only thought about it because it's amazing how sometimes a simple draft pick can drastically change a roster and its future strategies...

No that's alright mate, I was a little harsh

I've seen a few posts recently about the fact that we should've tanked out that season and not traded our pick away to move Wiggins, but I think that it's a bit more complicated than it's made out at times.
If we still had that pick (and Wiggins), I don't think we pick Ant, for example. And we currently could be looking at:
Lamelo, Beasley, Wiggins, Kuminga, KAT.
Worse IMO.

I liked Mobley and wished we could have got him. I remember his detractors considered him a safe yet boring pick with very little upside. Is he going to win the RoY?

Re: 2022 NBA Draft Talk: Never too soon
I went to Tankathon and simulated the lottery about a hundred times and every time no matter how the lottery went they had the top 8 picks the same guys in the same order.
About 19 times out of 20 they had the Wolves selecting Kendall Brown a SF from Baylor. Usually going right after our pick was EJ Liddell the high scoring but too short SF/PF from The Ohio State University.
Also very notable was Nikola Jovic going very soon after us.

It's part of why I'm higher on a guy like Patrick Baldwin Jr. Disappointing college year, but has the skill.
Also been looking at shooters like Branham, Agbaji, etc.

Tankathon had us taking Branham on the occasions they didn't have us taking Brown.

After this painful loss, I found a reddit topic about our struggles against so called "Clippers defense". I believe that we can beat “Clippers defense” if we have big shooters on the wings. Those type of players who are big enough to cut and score in the paint AND shoot over opponentif needed.
Guys such as Jovic, Baldwin Jr, Ousmane Dieng might be natural answer. Because they can shoot and pass.

Re: 2022 NBA Draft Talk: Never too soon
Mark Williams or Walker Kessler. - Both are huge defensive shot blockers, I think they have a high floor as at least a backup big, but lower ceilings. Kessler a bit more skilled and agile, while Williams is more of a bruiser with good run/jump athleticism.
Nikola Jovic - Intriguing potential, offensively very good handler, passer, shooter. Could be a secondary playmaker in an offense. Can he finish and can he play any defense though? His attitude might be worth looking into as well.
Jean Montero - He could be a good long term developmental piece, if he falls to the 2nd round. Can score, make plays with the ball in his hands, and is a good athlete.
Jake LaRavia - Can do it all offensively, post up, shoot, handle and pass. Guards well and moves his feet, just isn't a big time shot blocker or rebounder. Like him as a 2nd rounder. also a young junior(only 20)

Sochan or Williams for me.
And try to move up to late first and snag Hardy as a special
