I would lean into the Ant timeline, get younger, even if it means taking a step back next year. Rudy is paid more than 100m over the next 3 years. He turns 33 in a month. He is a great regular season player that will never be a huge component of a championship team. He just takes too much off the table offensively. We were afraid to even throw it to he open near the basket half these playoffs. I hated Randle prior to the trade, last half of the year he was really good, but seeing his body language these last two games plus his fit with McDaniels is questionable (neither is a reliable shooter), if he opts in, I’d looks at a trade.
If we could get a young rim protector and a power forward that can shoot, that would be my targets. Lauri the best fit at PF and with his down season and large contract that may be doable if we can get a third team to send assets to Utah for Gobert.
I’d also see what’s out there for DDV and Dilly. I prioritize NAW over DDV because I think he does more; and if trading DDV for value frees up money for NAW, I do it. I’d love to get a late lotto pick to get a bigger PG like Jakucionis. Dilly, I just don’t see a starter. Small. Shifty but not elite quickness/athleticism. Can’t defend. Not a true PG/instincts. If he stays, he’s a backup for several years, maybe eventually elevating with bulk/experience, but I’m not even sure about that.
You circle the wagons around Ant, McDaniels, resign Naz to a reasonable deal (4/75ish?), NAW, TSJ, and hopefully get assets/picks for Randle, Gobert, DDV that are or can be used to get a young shot blocker (Lively/Kessel type), young/bigger PG (Jakucionis type), and a PF that can shoot (Lauri just turned 28).
OKC taught us we need more two-way players, with length, that can shoot. Cedric Coward is my target at 17, although I wouldn’t be shocked if OKC took him at 15.
