Re: The Newest Video Game Thread
All you need to do is sign up for or put the minimum down on a pre-order for any of these games with betas/"demos." I was very excited for Anthem, but when they had their private demo and open demo it was obvious this game wasn't even close to being polished enough to be considered a demo and was going to be lacking a loot grind and interesting mission variety. The gameplay had some cool moments, but that was it. Canceled my pre-order.
I think most games shown at E3 are close to representative of what they deliver. The biggest thing people should be skeptical about is any game that is loot based being advertised as a live service with post launch support. Most of these games want to charge you a premium for the game on release, any story based add on, and any cosmetic dlc. The cosmetic DLC is almost always absurdly overpriced and the only way games can pull that off to a wide range of players is if the base game is F2P. Most of the time the live updates are underwhelming and only interesting enough to get you to log in just long enough for you to see what crap the are selling in their cosmetic shops. I refuse to spend more than $20 extra on DLC maps and cosmetics if I have paid full price for a game.

CPR have elicited a large amount of good will from me after the Witcher 3, so I'm quite hopeful that Cyberpunk will be as good as it looks.
I'm 100% with you though, I'm becoming increasingly cynical towards everything I see at E3 and on trailers in general tbh.
i have faith in CPR, and they dont look like BSers at all, but same could be said about Bioware in the past, they made freaking Mass effect. But its obvious now that all the talent has left that company.
We have seen a single mission of Cyberpunk, and it already looks better than what Anthem had to show entirely, so I hope game turns out amazing. Anything less than amazing will be a disappointment for me, my most anticipating game easily.

Thing about E3 is that you really need to know what to look for. Usually the games are indicative so its not a problem. Back in the day they used to use CGI alot and that's a huge red flag. If you see a CGI scene you can pretty much take nothing out of it as to how the game will play.
I used to think the idea of this massive online games was great but as time goes on I realize they are not for me. Almost all of these games have you doing the same missions and loops over and over again for minimal upgrades and loot. The story is pretty much always non existent or very shallow. They never feel like living breathing worlds like a single player game can. Its just a bunch of people doing the same repetitive missions with nice window dressing.
What I really want is a game as deep as a big time single player experience like Skyrim, something with a big time story, world to explore, NPC's. But to play that with other people.
These games like Anthem, Destiny, Sea Of Thieves, Elder Scrolls Online, etc. just fail to hit that immersion and depth a single player game can provide. If someone can ever put the two together it would be huge,

Have played God of War and Last of Us
Both are fantastic. LOU is an more digestible straight forward run. GOW is a bit more open ended and RPG like. What are you more in a mood for?

I really like games with progression and RPG elements. I watched a bit of GOW, and I think I would like it. All games on my list I expect to get sooner or later.

Any MyTeam players? I'm stuck in both Triple Threat and Domination modes. Usually I fly right through them, but right now I'm stuck. I know I probably need to keep building up my collection, but I'm getting crushed though I'm using all low 90s guys (KD, LeBron, Kawhi, KAT, etc).

The issue nowadays is most gameplay demos are what they refer to as "vertical slices", basically a bite sized chunk of the game. Now that makes sense for some games, like a level from a single player game or a match from a sports one, but for huge open world games like Anthem and even the Witcher 3 (which got flak for the difference between it's E3 graphics and it's release ones) having only a small portion of the world loading indirectly boosts the graphics, since there's less for the engine/rig to do (more or less).
The other huge thing to look out for is when companies try something new, either a new "genre" if you will (think Destiny) or just new for the company (I guess Destiny applies here too, but something like Days Gone would work). Basically, if they don't have the previous experience to draw on either internally or externally odds are the game is going to have issues. For example, Anthem is developed by a bunch of single player RPG specialists despite being an open world looter with minimal story. Destiny was similar, being developed by linear FPS experts despite being another open world shooter - hence the FPS elements were good and the rest sucked.
It's something to keep an eye on if you're thinking about pre-ordering or getting hyped on something. It's rare for a company to try something new and nail it on the first try.

I never liked Todd Howard's games, but beside what i think of his games, talk about ruining your reputation in one year span. Mouthpiece clown and nothing more.

I wish we could have seen some boss fights for the Star Wars game. The fights with storm troopers looked almost too simple.

If it opens up and gets faster like The Force unleashed then I could see it being really fun.

I was going to say how I hate how they bring out these concept cars every E3 for Forza, but that LEGO Mclaren was pretty cool.
