I know I’m a nerd, but the way some people are using these scattergraphs, I wish they never existed.
I’m not knocking Jaden, but this does not show that his exclusion from the All Defense team this year would be a historic mistake. We don’t even get historic data here. But the worst part is that the creator took two attributes that are highly correlated already. Who can provide good on-ball defense if you CAN’T get through screens?
I feel like these posters look for a players’ two highest attributes, then make a scattergraph
I agree. As someone with a degree in Data Analytics, too often people find a couple points of data to support their argument/belief and then ride those data to the grave.
Jaden McDaniels is a very good defender. Why? Because we watch the games. We don't need statistics to tell us this but unfortunately you do need statistics to convince the basketball world as a whole [and most people don't have time to watch every player] a player is good defensively.
There is typically a 1-2 year gap between when a player good/great defensively and when this is acknowledged by the general consensus of NBA.
For example, Mikal Bridges signed a large extension with Phoenix at the dawn of the 2022 NBA season [October 2021] and didn't even get an all-defensive selection until that seasons conclusion. Phoenix knew he was good defensively but it essentially took the contract for him to earn it.
OG Anunoby has been one of the best defensive wings in the NBA since they won in 2019 yet has no selections.

He made a living there in HS...part of why there were so many KD comps at the time.

Even as a kid, Jaden was all business. No giant celebrations after a good play - just get back on defense.
I like that.
I like that.

Jaden had 6 assists yesterday....just short of his career high 7 assists. Also only the 3rd time in his career he has had 6+ assists in a game

Re: Jaden McDaniels thread
While everybody is saying that Conley trade is about Gobert, I wonder if both Ant and MCD can make natural step forward in offense.

Re: Jaden McDaniels thread
I've heard mention that we need to give McDaniels a nickname for his defensive prowess.
I've found one with a perfect analogy, but I'm not sure I like how it sounds.
"The Girdle". A girdle by definition is something that encircles or confines. They can be suffocating, restricting, very uncomfortable, and can cause difficulty breathing.

Is it possible to down vote an idea...like instead of an And1...give an idea a Flagrant 2?

Always a bad idea if you have to explain it.

Ooo, that's a good one. Or The Bro instead of manzier.
We should think of something good, he deserves it.
Any suggestions? Think deep people.
