Having Conley be the only prototypical PG on a roster would be very risky.

He’s going to have no idea how to organize or lead an NBA offense from day 1. He played almost exclusively with Sheppard at Kentucky, who played much more that role. However, you don’t draft a 6’1” 164 lb guard at #8 unless he’s your future PG. you have to give him that role behind Conley and let him learn. And we will have another PG, probably Morris or JMac at the vet min.

Eggzactly.
Coach him up. Show faith in him.

I'm sorry, but the "running the offense" thing is one of the most overrated fan critiques of NBA prospects.

That's not going to be his role. Maybe it will be at some point; maybe it won't. But it has no bearing on what I expect his instant impact to be now and going forward.

I do expect him to run the offense. Other than Ant he will eventually be our primary guy to do it. That could happen before the end of the season. Go Dilly.

So many poor draft choices have been made because a prospect was viewed as an "undersized SG" who "can't run an offense".

2017: Malik Monk behind Frank Ntilikina and Dennis Smith
2018: Anfernee Simons behind a lot of guys
2020: Cole Anthony behind Killian Hayes and Kira Lewis
2014: Marcus Smart behind Dante Exum; Zach LaVine behind Elfrid Payton
2013: CJ McCollum behind Trey Burke
2009: Steph Curry behind Jonny Flynn; Jrue Holiday behind Brandon Jennings

Where do you get that from?

Try typing "Rob Dillingham scouting report" into Google, and see how many websites call him a combo guard. He was at least as much of a scorer as a distributer in college. I'm sure we will be playing him mostly at "PG", but he is going to be more of a DLo type player than a Mike Conley type player.

That's the downside. He could end up a short DLo. We are all hoping for better.

Numbers I find interesting.

Dillingham: USG%: 30.3, AST%: 29.7, TO%: 13.5
Castle: USG%: 22.0, AST%: 18.4, TO%: 13.0
McCain: USG%: 21.1, AST%: 11.0, TO%: 10.1

Don’t know if he had a nickname yet but I’d like to submit “Thrillingham” for consideration.

I don't think anyone going into the draft thought Castle or McCain were better offensive players at the moment than Dillingham.

I think the crazy-high AST% is what caught me off guard. Its closer to Tyler Kolek than the other lottery (or near lottery) PGs.

And that its basically the same as his usage.

He has a company called WitDaShifts? OK. I still don't like Shifty. That sounds lame too IMO. I don't think I could ever get on board with that. It's no big deal. Dilly is just kind of simple and it's very positive.
