Historical evidence suggests the loss in trade value occurs after the trade deadline -- 1.5 seasons is full value. Perhaps teams value this way because they'd have the star for two playoffs.

Yeah, I think this is a good distinction to make. Though I still think value does fall between start of season and trade deadline in most cases, since if you can get a guy into your training camp his effectiveness is going to be much higher. But since Love was coming off an injury plagued season it might actually have increased since the summer to the deadline. But once the deadline hits it will plummet.

Even sad that we are having these discussions. If we have to wind up trading Love, every head should roll in the front office. Complete house clean, Adelman can go too.

We'll give you Nikolas Mirotic, Jimmy Butler, our first round pick, and Charlotte's first round pick. We'd give you Joakim Noah if you didn't already have a center. Hell, we'll throw in both of Derrick Rose's knees, his brother, and a slice of Lou Malnati's sausage pizza.

Just give us Kevin. :D

quick question, would klove net us a top3 pick in this upcoming draft? i would assume it would have to be a team like the kincks, bulls or lakers who hold that top 3 pick that would be willing to make such a trade, because I doubt a smaller market team would be willing to trade so much for klove when odds are he doesn't want to be there, and with that being said should we as timberwolves fans be rooting for these teams to be terrible so the odds increase they get a high pick, incase we do start looking to move him in 2014 summer

In all honesty, I'd probably do that trade assuming the team misses the playoffs. I'm guessing Boozer would also have to be included for financial reasons, which I'm fine with (he's only got one more year after this season left, right?). This is, of course, if Chicago gets a top 5 pick at minimum. And would you be willing to take back Brewer as well? Might save us some cash and open up space for a guy like Bazz, while giving you someone to make up for losing Butler.

With that we'd have 3 draft picks this year (Chicago's, ours and Charlotte's) to add to the young group of Rubio, Bazz and Dieng, but also a group of solid veterans like Martin, Pek and Boozer so the team doesn't fall off and it's depressing as hell to watch (ala the last decade or so). Adelman would retire, I'm assuming, so they'd have to bring in someone who can work with young guys...but yeah, I'd be ok with this type of scenario. Ideally Love stays, the team puts it together and we all have super fun happy time, but I don't believe in this scenario as strongly as I did even just a few weeks ago.

Make it two slices of Lou Malnati's and we have a deal.

Make it 2 slices, and I'd take just that.

I actually agree with SpinninHouse from a Chicago standpoint.

I think something like the Rights to Miritoc, the Bulls 1st, the Cat's 1st, Boozer (for salary) and Jimmy Butler (hate to move him) wold be a realistic trade.

I think instead of focusing on what to do with K-Love your front office should be putting more talent around the guy. You guys really aren't far off from being a contender. Top 5 player in the league with a lot of underrated pieces around him. Get a better bench and I honestly believe this is a team that could make some noise in the playoffs.

I dont think the front office is putting any thought into trading Love.

I would hope not, what I meant is that instead of worrying if he is going to leave after next year they should be trying to be proactive and bring in better talent before that happens.

What players are out there that might be targets to build around Love? At this point i think everyone but Love is expendable ( including the coach and system)

The great thing about Love is that you can put literally anyone next to him and they'll look good somehow.

If we're building around Love, we need defenders first and foremost, especially at C, shooters, and one or two players who can consistently create offense from the perimeter.

Right now we don't really have any defense, Martin is horrible, Pek is below average, Brewer could be good but gambles too much, and Rubio is often overmatched by the ultra quick PGs that seem to be on every team now.

We also don't really have any shooters outside of Budinger, Martin (inconsistent), and Love himself.

And finally, we have two guys on the team that can create from the perimeter - Rubio (though he can't create for himself at all) and Barea ( :-?).

To build around Love (and Rubio), we'd be best off moving Pekovic for a defensive C who's athletic enough to finish off Rubio lobs, and get a few 3-and D wings, if at least one of them can also create (i.e. Afflalo), even better. Martin, although he's a good fit in Adelman's offense (which we shouldn't be building around) should also be moved since he's a poor fit next to Love. Shabazz and Budinger are fine off the bench as scoring options, but neither of them should be starting due to lack of D, and only one should be retained due to positional fit (both are SFs).

When you think about it, the best time to move Love would be this season, otherwise we might end up in a last minute Dwight Howard situation and not get anything good. This is the year you want to find your way into the lottery too.

I think we ride with Love to the end though. I really don't think Flip moves him at all unless Love basically says to him he's definitely leaving so you might as well get something for me

If it really came down to trading Love, which at this point I'd hate to see happen, this would be my favorite deal. The value seems more than fair (if Chicago's pick ends up in the high/middle lottery). We should try to shop the Bulls pick then, though, as it could turn into another failed pick.

I'd rather we'd keep building around Love, though.

Lottery Machine is up. Playing around with it makes that bulls deal is pretty interesting. There are alot of possibilities.

I just ran it once and we got the third pick and took Embiid.

I'm gonna stop with that.

This news about Lamarcus possibly wanting to sign long term in Portland is amazing.

Everyone in the Wolves front office needs to take notice. I think there is a ton of potential in this team still, but a move definitely needs to be made.
