One question I have is when is Naz trade eligible?

He's technically signing his extension in the 2022-23 season and my understanding of extensions is that the player is then not able to be traded until the end of season (which is less than a week away).

I don't think there is any chance Naz is getting moved this off-season, I'm just curious as to what the actual rules are.

Here's a guy who was undrafted, played himself into NBA shape, plays the kind of unorthodox game that has allowed him to thrive as KAT's backup, generally killed it as a starter, and now he's earned the kind of generational wealth that should keep the Reid family comfortable for generations to come.

It would have basically been him or using the exception. I don’t know if we could have attracted a better FA or not. I don’t know the exact list of who is expected to sign around that amount but for his skills and age, I’d imagine Naz would be among the stronger players we could have hoped for (in a vacuum)

Plus, he wants to be here and knows the guys/system.

We didn't have any cap space to sign anyone in the NBA, but you are allowed to re-sign your own guys to whatever number you can agree to terms with. So Naz & NAW are the only guys currently (I guess Luka Garza too?) we can sign to whatever number they agree to..

Wolves were below a tax line that would've caused the Wolves to pay a penalty if they go over it, so with Naz re-signing for about $14mil per year, we have about $5.85mil to re-sign NAW while staying under that tax line.

Just imagine I give you $100 and you spent it on Ant,Kat,Jaden,Rudy,etc and all you have left is $20. You just used $14 on Naz which leaves you with $6 for NAW.. If you go over that $100, now you owe me money on whatever goes over that $100 (so if you go over $10, you owe me that in penalty)

I think we keep NAW, if he's about 5-6mil per year. He's also a restricted free agent so we can match whatever other teams give him unlike Naz who was an unrestricted free agent. I'd say 80% chance NAW comes back unless some team with cap gives him more than 8mil per year

We can also move players like Jmac/Prince to clear more space to get back NAW + a PG on the free agent market.

Keeping Naz and not letting him free agency was huge, but I think he wanted to stay + they gave him an offer slightly above the full MLE which most teams could only throw that amount at him

I think we can only re-sign NAW now or use the MLE on someone else OR just say **** it (like the Suns are doing apparently) and just spending a crap load of money without worrying about the tax penalty and go for the championship while having a crazy expensive roster.

So "technically" we can re-sign NAW to whatever number he agrees to & we can use the full MLE (12.2mil) on any free agent that wants to come here. I put technically in quotes because while it's legal, It's not smart because owners would have to pay fines + other penalties in order to keep that expensive roster.

Interesting that Wolves went with low to high instead of front loading the contract. That gives us more money this off season. Great first step.
