Or we could do the smart thing and clean out all the underlings who pushed for the Gobert trade starting with Dell Demps, and expand the duties of those who were against it.
All it would have taken would have been swapping D-Lo out for a different veteran PG and not making any other major moves in the offseason and we could at minimum be sitting where Sacramento is right now as a 3-4-5 seed.

This year was a giant lost opportunity.
Even with all the injuries, dysfunction and Gobert not really working out we should have a minimum of 5 more wins right now.
47 wins wasn't good enough for the 6 seed last year, and 44 (maybe even 43) would have gotten us the 5 this year.
We barely got the 8 seed with 48 wins just a few years ago.
Cracking the top 6 is going to be harder in future years.

LAL, LAC, GSW, NO all also had key players miss tons of games to injury this year.
OKC, NO, Utah are all loaded with young players and tons of draft capital and are only going to get better.
This year we saw LAC, LAL, GSW starting to show their age a little bit and Phoenix is older too, and Dallas regressed a lot after losing Brunson and taking a big swing (like us) that actually made them worse.
But those are all major markets that will have an easier time reloading.

And then we also have to also hope Wenbanyama ends up in the eastern conference.
But at least if we suck next year we are guaranteed to have our own 1st round pick. That won't be true again until '28.

Between Lakers and Clippers, who do we want to play in play-in? I go with Clippers assuming PG is not back for it.

We want the laziest… whatever team works the least. We cannot handle hard working overachieving teams.

Looked good for a long time. Tyrus had a good game, love to see him back home replacing JMcl. Twolves need to take care business at home now. Let's hope Zion won't be back until May.

6. LAC (41-38) have LAL, POR, PHX
7. LAL (41-38) have LAC, PHX, UTAH
8. NOP (40-39) have MEM, NYK, MIN

We have a very small chance of taking the 6th seed via tiebreaker if we win out and finish at 42-40, but for that to happen an unlikely scenario has to play out:
For us to jump to 6, we have to win out and 2 of GSW/LAC/LAL has to lose 2 of their remaining games.
For that to happen, either Portland has to beat GSW or LAC,
OR (our best chance) LAL beats LAC and then lose to UTAH, and PHX beats both LA teams.

Lakers beat Utah in OT tonight, that was a big blow to our chances of moving up in the standings.
If we lose to New Orleans, our only chance to climb out of the 9 hole would be for LAC or LAL to lose out and tie us at 41-41.
The Portland loss was a killer because if we had won that game all we would have needed for the 5 or 6 seed was to win out and 1 win either from Sacramento vs GSW or PHX vs the team that wins the LAL/LAC game.

If we beat New Orleans and San Antonio (not at all a given), we are assured of at least 8 (we win head to head tiebreaker vs NO then) and we will only have to win one play-in game.
So that game will basically be another play-in game for us.

We can still get to 7 and have a home play-in game if we win out and PHX beats the team that loses the LAL/LAC game.

ThankYou. Great post.

If we can at least get into that 8th spot and have a chance against the 7th seed and playing Memphis it would be huge. I just don't think we have much of a chance in a series against Denver. Memphis is also really tough at home but without Clarke we match up better.

Just want to pass the play-in first. Want to play OKC but DAL won tonight. A DAL first game than a LAL second game would be tough. If we get that far, will take a 1-4 vs DEN and call it a good learning year and look forward to golf and Naz trade. May a LAC second game now...

3 game losing streak at this point ion the season was murder. Pelicans are so strange. I don't how the hell they dropped 10 straight but the fact that they did that and still surpassed us and may secure a playoff spot is crazy. That's a really tough team.

The return of KD 2.0. Ingram took another step forward after come back from injury. I think Ant will do the same and take another step forward next year. Yes, no easy games in play-in.

Wish we had Hyland off the bench, he scored like 11 points in the 4th qtr. tonight.

Memphis kind of hosed Minnesota tonight with that choke job. That said, if Minnesota wins the next two games, they will be a top eight seed, which would be massive. Having an opportunity at getting the seventh seed to avoid Denver would afford Minnesota a chance at being competitive in the Playoffs.

Need the Lakers to lose to the Suns(who will probably rest guys), us to win out and we could get the 7th seed. Get the 7th seed, beat LAL in the play-in, beat Memphis, then the 2nd round beat Sacramento.

Without looking back a hundred years and count all the bad Twolves losses of the season, that Jazz OT win for Lakers was huge. Otherwise, we would be in control for the 7th seed. At this point, the best hope is get the 8th and give ourselves two chances

There is no chance the league will allow us to beat the Lakers in the play-in. None. Zero. Seen this script before.

The league cant stop us if we play like we got some damn sense. Look at it this way, if the refs do screw us because the game is so close, we failed anyway. Our job it to take it out of the refs hands and we are capable of doing it, just depends on which version of this team shows up.

Late in this crazy, crazy season, we could still get the fifth seed! If everything dropped perfectly, we could end up in a three way tie at 42-40 with LAC and GSW, and we have the tie-breaker over both of them. We also hold the tie-breaker over LAL, and will hold it over NOP if we beat them on Game 82.

Now, to show you how unlikely this is, we need to win our last two, LAC and GSW need to lose their last pair (and each plays POR once), and the Lakers will have to lose one to either PHX or Utah. So, extremely unlikely, but this year is so weird. I was surprised the fifth seed was still technically on the table.
