Given the circumstances, I think the chances of DDV re-signing with Minnesota are pretty slim.

That said, LaMelo and DDV feel like a match made in heaven. LaMelo thrives with high-volume movement shooters who never stop relocating, while Donte excels at playing off a creator who can consistently find him. Their skill sets complement each other almost perfectly.

Donte's injury sucked and continues to suck. Can we get cap relief due to it?

Minnesota can only get an injury exception if Donte is ruled out for the entirety of the season, which he is not.

Why wouldn’t Donte re-sign here though? I don’t see many teams being interested in a 31 year old coming off serious injury (assuming he misses all next regular season). Wolves will probably give him a slight bump in pay to 13-14 million.
I think Connelly will try to sell high on Ayo (like he did with Naz). Ayo will be a solid 6th man this upcoming season and at 18 million salary will be decently paid but when his salary jumps to 22-25 million per season in a few years he will be expensive for a backup. I wouldn’t be surprised if he is sent out in a trade for a starting big so backup pg role will be all Donte.

It sucks that it has to be 100% of the season, but it will be 90% of the season and then an offseason until he is fully recovered.

Donte will at worst get the full MLE, either from Minnesota or from someone else.

How many players this offseason are changing teams and signing for more than the full non-tax MLE? I’m honestly not sure but not many.

I know Achilles injuries are not the career ender they once were. But Donte will be 31 next time he steps on an NBA court. If his Achilles doesn’t react perfectly, he continues to have burning/pain when he attempts to come back, who knows what that next contract will be.

I wonder if we have offered him something like 4 years/50m now, below market level, probably longer than we’d like, but gives him security and almost doubles his NBA earnings, locking up someone we see as a leader onto our roster on a good deal for the rest of his career. And we’re waiting to announce till the rest of free agency is complete. I see no other reason for the report to be that we are just not moving a player that has 1 year left and will be out that one year.

I agree it is weird for there to be a report that we’re not moving Donte, but it would also be weird (and probably I’ll-advised) to sign Donte to an extension in this situation.
