Re: TRADE: Rubio to Utah for '18 OKC 1st
You can choose to prefer Rubio over Teague(I do)...you can choose to think Teague is the lesser of 3-4 PG options(Lowry, Hill, Rubio, Holliday...I do), but to think that going from Rubio's salary to Teague's new reported salary is going to drastically change our FA is emotional and not logical.
Yes, we will lose out on a FA someone wants, and point to that 4 mil. But all of your favorite(realistic) FA targets are still within reach regardless if we are paying Rubio or Teague. Move on from Aldrich...and now you might be able to get two of your favorites.

Are you serious? If you've ever watched a Timberwolves broadcast, you'd know that's not the case.
Not certain but think that was sarcasm.

I would rather spend $18 million on someone other than Teague. And yes that is $4 we could add to another FA that we won't have now....it definitely could make a difference. There are not a lot of teams with money to spend on FA this summer. We were one of them. I just would have rather spend the money in a different way. Sorry if wanting to spend the money in a different way isn't logical to you.

The PG market is non-existent
wait him or other PGs out!
That's fine and dandy until you overplay your hand and are stuck with Derrick Rose.
That's fine if he's the last one standing
Teague, Collison, Rose, Rondo, etc.
none of them move the needle in anyway, so why pay them like they do?
Actually some of those guys move the needle backwards. I think Teague is easily the best one.

Re: TRADE: Rubio to Utah for '18 OKC 1st
Question for Wolves fans...
Thibs didn't make any harsh moves for 1 full year, he sat back and evaluated his players.
Thibs got his star in Butler, he had a pretty good idea what the Bull's front office thought about all kinds of players around the league, he just had to wait them out.
Thibs moved Rubio out to clear space and get a first, exactly what he tried to do with New York with Rose and a 1st round pick, he waited it out. He didn't just want to clear space, he wanted a 1st round pick also and he got it.
Thibs may already have a deal EARLY for a PG he wants which would mean on his terms, both money and years.
He's not made one hasty move yet for some reason people are still thinking he's not exactly sure what he's doing. Thibs is looking at long term, not just next year.
There's probably still cap space which if they have a contact for Teague already figured out, Thibs knows exactly how much he has to work with... isn't it logical he has more plans or is doing all this for a specific purpose?

Re: TRADE: Rubio to Utah for '18 OKC 1st
I'm warming up to Teague being here. Certainly not what I would have chosen but if it's something near 3/55M I can live with that. I'm guessing this (if true) also means that Lowry told them privately that he wasn't interested. Holiday is re-upping in NOLA and Hill wasn't interested either so the options are shrinking. And Teague is certainly better than Rose.

And it might not seem logical to you....but I would have felt fine with this signing if it was $15-16 million a year. Over $18 million just seems like too much for Jeff Teague with the salary cap going down to $99 million and the number of teams who are in trouble with the salary cap this summer.

No doubt Teague is the best of those choices. I even like him more than Hill or Holliday. I just don't like the trade off of $4 million in salary cap space. That's all I was saying.

No doubt
My point is that a traditional PG isn't a overwhelming need with Butler, he is better with the ball than all those guys
If going to spend $18 mil/yr, get a difference maker on the roster. Teague isn't that to me
Otherwise use it elsewhere, just get a wing or combo guard that can defend the opposing PG instead

Hence the reason to go get 1st round picks when you have a young superstar(Towns) and a young star(Wiggins) and you're going to have to pay them and Butler the max very soon. You have to keep the talent level up and Rubio would have cost too much money after his deal was up. Maybe had Minnesota not gave up their 2018 1st round pick for Payne this might not have been necessary to do but they have to keep adding young rookie contract talent when they're near maxed out.

Teague was one of the biggest assist men in the league last year. He is a traditional PG. Probably a better distributor than Butler.

Keep in mind I said 'drastically' change...many arguments to be had about Teague/Rubio as starters over the course of next year. But beyond that, looking at the bench only, I will be curious to see what we miss out on by not having that extra money.

But how good of a distributor is he going to be when the ball is in Butler's hands?
