When's the last time a white center has been the #1 player in a draft, Bill Walton in '74? I'm just curious what kind of odds he'd be overcoming if he turned out to be the #1 player in this draft.

Bogut went #1 in 2005, the year Deron Williams and CP3 went 3 and 4. Valanciunas was reportedly #1 on some boards.

I mean in retrospect, disregarding where they were drafted, how many white centers turned out to actually be the #1 player from a draft

Hm, didn't know skin color influences your game. Maybe Len should go sunbathing?

edit: and in retrospect, arguably Pau should have been #1 pick in 2001, his only competition is Tony Parker, and he's a white center. : p

And some of you want another PF, at #9?
Because our All Star desperately needs someone to share those 12 minutes behind him with the other 2 PF's.
LOL

Some of you guys are just nuts.

Pau is too weak to play cente. He needs to only play PF.

Maybe back in his Memphis days, but anyone watching Pau play at all in the last four years knows he's much better at center than he is at PF

Dunno why, but I have a feeling Klomp was being sarcastic.

I haven't seen anyone advocate drafting a PF

I know right? you wouldn't think so, but 39 years of overrating white centers says otherwise. I realize it hurts some white people's feelings to have that said, but I say let black folks have their precious basketball superiority, we'll always have our whatever that inexplicable olympic sport is where you ski around and shoot stuff.

If we sign Pek, are we really going to waste pick #9 on a backup Center? We can find one of those by trade or free agency. I believe the more pressing need is a wing that can defend 2's and shoot a bit, no?

I don't think there's any way we go away from a perimeter player. Flip belongs to Adelman and I can't imagine any reason Adelman would be pushing for a backup center in a draft with rare SG depth.

Yeah, I'm not sure why everyone seems to think that there won't be any SGs available at 9. Do we really think that both McCollum and KCP are gone in the first 8? I don't, and either one would be right in the mix for both BPA and meeting the most important need.

Spot on brotha. We should let them have basketball superiority. Poor guys just can't catch a break. They couldn't even keep Michael Jackson on their side.

I am beginning to think it isn't a coincidence the whitest team in the NBA is in the whitest city. If you guys choose a white player in the draft it will seal my doubt.

Is it a coincidence that its coming from a Portland fan though?

Portland's 72 percent white population was the highest in the country, a position unchanged from 10 years ago.
