I have just a little problem with us not getting Russell. I'm just embarrassed at how it played out with us canvassing the league in desperation to get the cap space if you believe the Stein Tweet.

This doesn’t seem to be the case, but someone mentioned that Russell or the Wolves didn’t really have a choice in the matter if the Nets wanted the deal from Golden State. Even if he signed the offer sheet with Wolves, the Nets could just match and trade him to the Warriors.

New NBA rule should be created. If your team has been to the finals twice in the past three seasons you are categorically blocked from any trading whatsoever until that is no longer the case. I don't want to see successful teams punished. However these superteams are just a wrecking ball to every other team in the league in every way. The assets they amass, also the amount of cheap short term assets that jump on board that are easily later moved. Then other teams are helping them for lord knows what reason to move assets around...future favors?

There was at one time a commissioner that would step in and occasionally say no to some trades that would worsen league competition. It may have been a biased untrustworthy system hinging on one man's choice but it was something. Today, anything goes in fact the bigger the superteam the more it's celebrated by the TV media and money. They all celebrate being able to talk about three teams all year long it's just sickening. Tough time to be a GM of any team outside that favor. Tough time to be a fan hoping for a reason to continue watching.

After signing Irving and Durant they could no longer match is my understanding. They could delay signing Durant and Irving, but that is a dangerous game to play.

Russell and Durant were signed and traded for one another. They couldn't have signed Irving and Durant, then matched Russell, but since GS agreed to the sign and trade, it didn't matter, they didn't need the cap space.

Once an offer sheet has been signed he cannot be traded via s&t. Brooklyn can only match or let him sign with the offering team.

You're missing this. If Russell doesn't agree to sign and trade then the Nets are playing a very dangerous game waiting to sign Durant. If Russell signs with Minnesota yes they could match, but I don't think you can match and then trade him to another team. I'm pretty sure Russell had full control of the team he went to except the Nets had the power to help facilitate where Russell could go by sign and trade.

Sounds cool. I live 250 miles or so away. I wanted to go, but I have a one year old daughter to take care of and didn't think that was the best idea to bring her there.
