Of course. No coach is perfect, but I trust Finch a lot of the time. He's still improving as a coach too. We complain about him not playing young guys, timeouts, playing old guys, but a lot of the time it works out, or he's gotten better there(using timeouts, playing TSJ/Clark). I trust him to develop young guys the right way, and he's shown a willingness to play them. If you put the work in then he'll give you a shot. Minott had a chance early, he didn't capitalize. TSJ and Clark took it.

Who knows. Just look at his face and often times polarizing statements in interviews. Seems like he can age 10 years for the better or worse within a day.

I assume its lack of sleep? I'm sure he's putting in some long days/nights watching film and working on gameplans.

Sorry, but this thread continues to be laughable to me. He's literally doing things no other coach in the West has done in 6 seasons, and did so with a last-minute major roster shakeup.

I find it interesting that this fan base seems to value the regular season over the playoffs.

Getting Randle and DDV to buy in says a lot about a coach too. All the players in the NBA are extremely talented, coaching is about managing egos too.

We underperformed in the regular season.

Beat 2 overrated teams in LAL, and GSW.

We need to put up a fight to finish this series. We lose tonight, then what?

There is a lot of individual talent on this team, and we SHOULD be here in the WCF, and SHOULD be making it competitive.

If relevance of a few playoff series wins pleases your appetite, ok. The goal is to win a championship.. I'm not quite sure if Finch is capable, but we will find out.

Finch had his chance with a talented roster.

...said roster underperformed all year long. At some point, blaming the players, just isn't going to work.

Time to move on. Complete overhaul. Micah is a good one, but everyone has to go..

I disagree. We have one of the best rim penetrators in the game but the roster is constructed so we have three starters along side him who shoot less than 34.5% from 3. Finch is doing the best he can with what he’s been given.

We’ve made the WCF two years in a row and you want an overhaul? Take a deep breath…

Doug Collins coached a team from 1986-1989, made 3 straight conference finals in a row. Fired in 1989.

Sometimes the thing that needs changing to get over the hump isn’t just a roster issue. Sometimes you need a new coach (and the NBA to make a subset of rules named after your star player).

To me, you only fire Finch if you've already identified someone you like better. Obviously Collins was replaced with Phil Jackson, one of the greatest of all-time. Most of the time though, you get some retread who doesn't do any better.

How can a team going to back-to-back WCF be underperforming?

Your franchise is one of the worst in sports history. You don't even have a Top 10 player on your team and you made it to back-to-back WCF. Quit acting like Lakers fans.

You guys are facing the best team by MOV in NBA History. Oklahoma City is a historically great team. Top 10 team all-time by their regular season.

Mark Jackson to Steve Kerr as well.

(Granted the number of times it doesn't work is absolutely the norm)

Jackson-led Warriors only made it to the WCS once, never the WCF. The year before the change, it was a first round exit.

Last I checked, TJ played last night, so obviously he's not too afraid of it....

Finch is not the problem. This team has been playing at or above its talent level since the beginning of March.
TC dumped a Julius Randle lemon into his lap 2 weeks before the season started and he somehow found a way to make lemonade with it.

We just found a way to score 126 points against a team full of A+ defenders who the refs allow to foul at will.
He benched his big ego player who was playing like garbage twice in this series.
We've thrown everything we can at stopping an MVP winner who you can't breathe on without a foul call.

We will probably lose this series, but it will be to a more talented team that performed very well and that's not on the coach.
We probably had to play out of our minds to win this series anyway.
If we had Aaron Gordon instead of Julius Randle we might have stood a chance.

Wrong again.

Detroit pistons coached by Rick Carlisle from 2001-2003, couldn’t get over the hump. After reaching the Conference Finals in just his third year Rick was fired. Replaced by Larry Brown. 2004 Detroit wins the NBA Championship against Shaquille O’Neil, Kobe Bryant and the greatest “greatest coach ever”, Phil Jackson.

Larry didn’t have the best team, the best player ever, he was not a players coach.Larry was a winner. Iverson as a player didn’t care too much for Larry Brown, Iverson post retirement has glowing things to say about Larry Brown.

Larry Brown is not the greatest coach ever.

I'd argue that shortsighted thinking like that from ownership is what led Detroit to making the playoffs just twice in 15 years not too long after that. Rick Carlisle is a very good coach, much in a similar tier as Finch. Sure, they won a title....but they might have won one without him too. Carlisle has as many championships to his name as the Pistons since his firing.

Detroit also traded for a player who was arguably better than Chauncey/Wallace in Rasheed Wallace mid-season. They also developed Tayshaun Prince, a rookie in 2003 who was a starter in 2004. Let's call Tayshaun Prince your guy's Rob Dillingham for a year 1 to year 2 massive jump.

How are your timberwolves acquiring a Rasheed Wallace-caliber player? For reference, Rasheed Wallace was acquired and Detroit went 17-4, outscoring opponents by 15 PPG in games Rasheed played.

Is Minnesota going to acquire a Top 15-20 player in the NBA next year?

Return to Minnesota Timberwolves
