It's an instinct to prevent the easy lay-up - especially late in the game with the score being that close. I bet 90% of all basketball players would do that. Regardless of level of play.

I'm not a big fan of ice cold subs. If you plan on using a player for a last second score/stop he better have played in the last 45 minutes.
