Basketball IQ, running an offense, being a team leader. Those are qualities of Mike Conley, but not necessarily qualities of all point guards.

So you’re saying a bad PG is less valuable than a good PG? I think that speaks for itself. But you look at NAW or DDV who turn the ball over at a rate of 2AST/1TO, whereas a good PG gets you 4 or 5 to 1. If you think lowering turnovers and increasing assists and moving the ball more is exclusive to Mike and could not come from another PG brought in, I don’t know what to tell you.

But is a bad PG more or less valuable than no PG?

Is a bad player at any position more valuable than a roster hole? If a player cannot fulfill the requirements of the role then they are not suited for that role. If a big cannot rebound are they truly a Center? If a SG cannot shoot are they are truly a SG? I am not advocating picking up a G league scrub and plugging them in for 20+ MPG. I am saying we need a legit 2nd PG. Someone who can handle ball pressure, play PNR with Rudy, drive and kick to Ant, and hit their shots at a decent clip. Your response might be that this sounds elite, but I would argue JMAC could do a lot of this last year. We were better with him, even though he isn’t that good. Obviously if we are 12-3 with a solid 25 minutes of PG play then Mike was playing well and we were doing things better with that PG play.

Mike in the last 4 games : 11.2 PPG at 45%, 11 3 at 52.3%, 5.3Ass/0.75 TO....when you see the ball and shoot more, you get better. Without DDV, we will need this production from Mike every night.

Ratio Assist-TO career tell it all. Too many TO at clutch from ANT or Julius. We need Mike to carry the ball. And after a very slow half season, he seems to be back to a good defense level. Will never avoid miss match but he is smart enough to make a difference.

Awesome. I've made 3 aces in Disc Golf, but zero with the ball and club.

Nice hole in one. All golfers whatever the level dream about it. One of my regular caddie promise me naughty times ( she don't take big risks) if i do one but never manage to :(.

More seriously, i'm so happy to see Mike healthy and having a good off season. We will see the difference with last year when season start.

I think you may be on to something. Mike may not regress at all this season and be even better than last.

I definitely think it's a bigger deal than most people think. No, it doesn't mean he'll return to All-Star form, but I think his offseason health should have us feeling better about him going into the season. I think it's a very real possibility he'll be better at 38 than he was at 37.

Agree with you guys. Knowing Mike well since he got draft, I'm convinced he will be a much different player he was last year. Maybe not All Star level but efficient for the team no doubt. I do hope too Rob will shine then Mike can play only 20-22 min per night and get ready for the run!

This right here is all I am looking for from bite-bite. Play some and mentor the heck out of Dilly. The first few months Mike starts and then turns the reigns over to Dilly. That is what I am looking for.

Interesting ITW as usual. Mike saying he wanna be the QB of this team is probably the right way to play. Julius and ANT have to focus more on scoring. This a a question of balance, something we were missing last 2 years. Keeping the ball too long cost us important Turnover against big teams. If we find this balance, we gonna be hard to beat.
Nice to see Mike healthy again, looks 5 years younger than last year.

Fingers crossed for health for Mike and everybody. I've been seeing ITW and I don't understand. I did a Google search and found nothing. Also NFT. Google said Non Fungible Token and I don't think that's what people mean here.

ITW - Interview, I think
NFT - No idea, but I don't remember seeing it anywhere on here. That also means nothing.

The way the question was asked, Mike is saying that the way for him to personally be the most effective is to have the ball in his hands and be the QB of the team. The question did not go into whether that was the best way for the team to play.

I think your interpretation is probably correct though that Mike has enough confidence in himself still that he wants the ball in his hands more because he thinks he can run a more efficient offense than if Ant, Randle, DDV, etc. are quarterbacking the offense.

My interpretation of the Brit conversation with Finch was that the PG position was going to continue being more of a low usage spot. Especially when he was talking about Rob needing to be able to play without the ball in his hands when he has Ant and Julius on his team. I do maybe sense a bit of Mike planting the seed a bit to try and convince Finch that the PG being the QB more might be in the best interest of the team.
