Rundown
B.Carlson - 7ft sniper who's below average nearly everywhere else but does have that 1 elite skill. At 25, and with those weaknesses, I can't see him getting drafted but he's a 2-way candidate.
C.Christie - Springy 2 guard who's an elite shooter and better defender than I initially thought (I like his competitiveness on that end, even if his technique needs refining). He's on the skinny side which impacts him on both ends and his finishing numbers are a serious red flag (44.4% at the rim per
Hoop-Math) but overall an interesting upside swing.
N.Djurisic - I'll be honest, I don't think he's a good prospect. He's a high usage, better off the bounce than catch shooter with poor (maybe even non-existant) defence. His passing is nice and the shot form doesn't look bad but he's a classic guy who needs the ball in his hands to be effective but is nowhere talented enough to justify that.
O.Ighodaro - Klomp's favourite. 6-11 C with a lot of bounce and elite feel/passing. Great PnR player, including as both a finisher and short roll passer. Also great in DHOs. Poor FT shooter and no range outside of a pretty decent floater will likely cause issues offensively. His defence is also good on the perimeter but he's a little skinny for his size so can struggle with bulk. Also is average (at best) as a rebounder and not much of a rim protector (measured with a 6-11 wingspan, which shows in the tape). I like him in the 2nd because we need smart players on the team.
D.Jones - Believe BlacJacMac posted a full run down a few pages back. Cliff notes are that he's a 6-5 PG with some athletic and shooting concerns. Awesome wingspan (6-4 without shoes with a 6-11 wingspan) but I worry about his role in the NBA. I'm not sure if he's good enough to truly run the offence through and his value diminishes significantly if you can't.
T.Newton - 6-5 combo guard from the recent 2-time UCONN championship teams. Does a lot of things well, including being a great rebounder for a guard (historically a good indicator of future NBA success) and one of the better floor generals (2.53 AST:TO ratio). He's got a weird shot form that plays out in the %s and he's got some athletic concerns that can impact his finishing at times and his defence. He's also lighter than you'd like for a 6-5 guy at 190lbs (he weighed about the same as Cam Christie, a freshman, and Mark Sears, who's 5-11). I can see him sticking the league but not sure he's the kind of player you spend draft capital on.
I wish Dillon Jones was 6'5" without shoes, but he plays more like 6'4" comboguard. I'd take Djurisic with #37 pick if no other projected first rounders fall into 2nd round. I like idea of big european wing at SF as part of bench unit.
So my scenario would be an energy big (for instance, Holmes) and Djurisic(draft-and-stash). Bring back Monte Morris, let Anderson and McLaughlin test FA market. Maybe bring back Luka Garza for min
Gobert/Towns/Holmes
Towns/Reid/Miller
McDaniels/Minott/??? +Jaylen Clark (2W)
Edwards/NAW/Moore + Djurisic (draft-and-stash)
Conley/Morris/NAW + Nix (2W)
