Re: 2021 Draft thread
G-League ignite team beat the Iowa Wolves today. The Ignite team is the one with the kids that skipped college on it. Kumiga and Green definitely are in the conversation for the top couple picks.
It seems like their are five players that have broken off from everyone else. Kumiga, Green, Cunningham, Suggs, and Mobley. All could be really good.
Haven’t seen enough of Kumiga and Green but think there could be a lot of duplication with Edwards. Love Suggs’ all around game and am kinda liking the idea of a mobile shot blocker with an elite offensive game like Mobley next to Towns.
Then again, Cunningham, Green, and Kumiga probably would mean that Okogie never sees the floor again, which would be a good thing too.

Started looking at prospects.
-Suggs plays with such great pace.
-Kuminga’s slashing and spins reminds me of Bazz. He seems to have some untapped passing potential.
-Cunningham looks so poised. Skills above college level already.
-I like Jalen Johnson and Scottie Barnes. Barnes is especially impressive as a passer for his position. Plus he is one of those guys on other teams you hate, but on yours you love. Johnson has extremely well rounded numbers. Roughly 19, 10, 4, 2 and 2 per 36.

Re: 2021 Draft thread
If I honestly thought we had the balls to trade or bench DLo I would lock in Suggs as one overall right now. RIGHT NOW. The more I am watching Edwards and Mcdaniels play, I am very torn between Mobley and Cunningham. If the Wolves would be willing to actually play Mcdaniels at the 3, I think I might pick Mobley, if not, then Cunningham. Either would looked great on the wing.

Saw Johnson has opted out of the rest of the season.

Idk opting out at this point of the season is quitting in my book, this isn't a football player skipping a meaningless bowl game.Klomp wrote:Mattya wrote:Started looking at prospects.

How many times has this happened now, people say the same thing, and the player turns out to be good and people forget whatever they did in college?

Johnson hasn’t been that good, something about a guy not wanting to compete and help his team win, just baffles me, I’d pass

Define “not being that good”... because outside of turnovers and free throw percentage his numbers are very good. They said the same thing about James Wiseman and Lamelo Ball...

Re: 2021 Draft thread
Watching the G-League Ignite team, previously 4-0, get absolutely destroyed.
Kuminga and Green both showed athleticism but not a whole lot of anything else. Each made some buckets but didn’t make a huge impact.
Kuminga has that Kawhi body. I think he’s the 6’8” he was listed at in HS, not 6’6” he’s listed at now. Looks big. Plays hard. Is very young. Will probably be the youngest kid in next years draft. Didn’t see a lot of BBIQ or great skills. For this team, I think he has the size to play some PF.
Green is very smooth. Has a great first step. Beat defenders clean a couple times. I think he’s strictly a SG though, which hurts my interest.
Not a good game for Ignite so not going to make judgements but was nice to finally see these guys play. Will record Mobley’s game tonight to get a good comparison.

The last few games have opened my eyes about the TYPE of PG this squad needs now that Ant has shown alpha-dog play-making and scoring. I frankly want the ball in his hands as much as possible, almost to the point where he's playing PG. Maybe not the whole game, but a good chunk of it. We flat out need a PG who is a defensive stud to cover up for Beas and Ant on that end. Not that either is a bad defender, but we would benefit hugely from a guard who could play alongside of them whose strength is defense. Someone with these attributes:
-Unselfish, shares the ball
-Potential great defender
-Hits the open 3 at a solid rate
-Penetrator, driver, disher, scorer
-Doesn't need the ball in his hands all the time to effect the game positively
-Already physically built, has college experience
I've already identified Davion Mitchell as this player in this thread, but got no reaction to it. The dude is the BEST defender (or one of the best) in college basketball. And he has all of the attributes above to boot. He's already playing the same role for Baylor as he would for the wolves - starting guard but not THE primary ball-handler / PG (Jared Butler has the ball in his hands most often). The great thing about him is that his draft stock ranges from mid teens to early round 2. Stats:
14 ppg
3 rpg
6 apg
54% shooter (49.4% from deep)
72% FT
2 steals per game
6-2 195 lbs of rock
6-5 wingspan
He's 22 years old so he's ready to go right out of the gate. I honestly believe he has starting PG potential - maybe not right out of the gate, but as we've seen, our 2 rooks this year look to be damn good starters (one now, one later). When teams load up on Ant, DM would be able to do some of the same kinds of things that Ant does. Having 2 physical / monster play-makers who can get by their man and collapse defenses would be huge, especially having Beas on the wing and KAT doing his thing from all 3 levels as well. But again, his calling card is defense, which is a huge need in our backcourt.
If we lose our lotto pick I'd try like hell to trade for a pick in the teens to target DM. Hell I might even do that if we DO keep our lotto pick. Then you can address the need at PF with the lotto pick (Mobley), and the hard-nosed defender at PG (Mitchell) with the mid-teens pick. I somehow hope that our scouting department is aware of how good Davion Mitchell is AND what a PERFECT fit he would be on our fav squad. Ya'll do yourself a favor and watch him play this Tuesday (vs. ISU) and Thursday (vs. WV), both at 7 CST I believe.
Good luck scoring, let alone dribbling the d@mn ball, against DM!!

McDaniels is not relevant for the choice of the pick.
BPA it is.

Same. I know the consensus pick is Cade and he could very well top the list when their careers are said and done, but man there's just something about Suggs that tells me not only will he be a star but he will provide the most seamless fit here.

Unpopular opinion I guess, but I think Suggs will be(or already is) better than Cade.
Plays with fire, 2 way player, elite passer, AMAZING form on his jumper and just has leadership qualities from the get go that gives me Damian Lillard vibes.
Suggs/Cade on this team would be game changers, but I truly believe Suggs is THAT guy

I am telling you guys, if we keep our pick, we need to get another top pick...even if it means Towns goes. Cunningham and Suggs are that good.

IF we trade towns wouldn’t trying to get the 2022 pick be better? Chet/Bates are future megastars.
I hate the dlo trade more and more each day... couldn’t towns have a bff that is good

I mean, we would get multiple 1's for Karl so sure. I want nothing to do with Holmgren at this time.
But I know what I see in Suggs and Cunningham. It isn't just scoring, size, and athleticism for their respective positions, it's uncanny basketball sense, leadership, and effort on both ends of the court.

I wouldn’t trade Towns unless he wanted out. That said, BBIQ is the most underrated skill in evaluating prospects. It’s a huge reason I was so high on Ball last year, and I don’t think it’s something that can be taught.
Suggs and Cunningham each have it. I’m higher and Cunningham because he has better size/shooting, but I think both will be real good.
