I put some blame on Finch. He has had a hard time integrating bench guys even when those same bench guys had played decently on other teams. That's why I don't even care who we sign as a bench player as they are likely to underperform here. Yeah, we got some sticky players that don't pass to everyone, but Finch has to take leadership on that. I'm in the minority, but Finch's inability to get bench players going, not resting guys enough (which go hand in hand) and failure to adjust during games, makes me wish we had a better coach. Yeah, Finch is still one of the better coaches the Wolves have had, but I don't think he's a great coach (just a good one) and why I preferred Nick Nurse and Budenholzer, who both won titles.
Finch has been doing great job with bench players: Reid, Vando, Beasley, even Nowell before. Kyle Anderson, NAW. They all contributed as bench players. Yes, Finch sometimes outsmart himself with by running some weird combinations, but he is by far the best coach that is available right now.
P.S. It is funny because I saw multiple TOR fans saying that Nurse was riding same guys, even more than Thibs has been doing.
I think the players you mentioned played much better as starters than they did as bench players. Reid didn't break out until he was a starter, Beasley played well as starter then sucked on bench, Kyle started. Its easier for guys who play with starters to integrate into offense. I really hated the way Finch used Shake, Brown and Morris last year.
Well, Vando, Beasley, Reid and even McDaniels were bench players and developed into pseudo starters.
Shake and Brown have not shown anything in DET, Morris has been dealing with injuries. I wish Brown and Morris had more opportunities, but it was high stakes season, there was not much room for slow integration. However, NAW example shows us that Finch is good at using bench players who were lost case in other teams.
